The fact he's being farmed out to a non-league side on loan by Rochdale surely tells you he's not very good? Unless of course you think he's manged to get ten-times worse in less than 12 months?
He played over four hours of football for us, over ten games(including Barmby's first two games in charge) and he definitely wasn't good enough. As Erik says, we're only one season on and he can't get into a mid table League Two team.
Well it happened to Dean Windass at that age and I'm pretty certain he wasn't **** when he was with us. And by 'it' I mean he ended up going from PL to playing for Oldham on loan.
1) Windass was a couple of years older and a successful Championship player with us in 2007/2008; 2) Windass hardly played for us in the Premier League, and so he effectively went from the Championship to League One - a drop of one division, not three
Adebola was chronic, thats why he didn't play much for us- doesn't take much working out. If he was decent he would have played.
That's probably spot on. But to say he was dire for us as if he actually did anything wrong on the pitch is very harsh. He was a disastrous signing, and he was probably a pretty poor player, but he didn't get chance to prove it either way. I just can't agree with people saying he was one of our worst ever players, it's like saying McKenna is an awful player now because he hasn't played much this season.
By that basis you could say you, me or Eric could be great players for the Tigers, we just have never been given the chance to prove it
Forgot about him. We've had a few duffers up front over the last 30 years that I can remember thats for sure!
No because I'm not saying Adebola could have been great, just that it's harsh to pick him out as a **** player since he didn't play. We've had players who have consistently stayed in the team despite their ****ness.
I'm pretty sure at the time we signed him it was decided on here that he'd be a good signing because he'd never play. Mind you, this was that weird time where literally anything against the club was practically forbidden. I say weird time, because it's 10 times better now yet there's 10 times more criticism of the club on here. Yes I'm still slightly bitter about the whole thing.
The best performance I remember from Dele Adebola was the away match at Barnsley (2-1 loss) which ended up being Nigel Pearson's 2nd to last game I think. Fryatt had missed a first half penalty, Barnsley went 2-0 up, late in 2nd half, Adebola was subbed on just after McLean's speculative overhead kick hit the bar and every ball played up to him, he held up brilliantly and played it on to someone else. He almost scored a couple of headers, and the Barnsley defence couldn't handle him. Every other game he was piss poor though, and it was quite embarrassing that we had him at the Club... We should have got Chris Iwelumo instead.
