Joe, why do you take it to the far side of a suggestion. I raised the NC issue here. I even used the words conspiracy, but in no way am I being 'so paranoid.' I'm just throwing ideas out there and the likes of Archers and Sotonist have come back with good points on it. I know you are very pro NC (I am too), however you, me and probably nobody on here knows the man and can say what he is like. It is possible (don't take it as my total opinion), that a person who is used to having their own way can do a little **** stirring when they lose control. Not definite, but possible.
I really think Cortese has better things to do with his time. The idea that he'd be interested in our failure is plausible, the idea he'd be interested enough to engineer it himself is laughable.
I wonder how many of the players have had contact with NC since January? I bet a few. I wonder if he said either of these things to them on any conversation between January and June: 1. Listen fella, it's a great club going places, unfortunately not for me as I wanted total control and the really nice owner decided that I had to share that control. You stay put son because despite me not being there it still is going to be great. 2. Listen fella, I'm out if there. They are not going to follow my dream anymore and without me things won't be so great. Have a think about that. I'm here if you need a chat. If anyone thinks mine of the players have been in contact with NC (maybe even via MP or someone else) and he has walked away, then I don't know what the problem is as he couldn't have been as close to them as people thought.
Possible and incredibly unlikely. The man has nothing to gain from it and he is a grown-up. If it's worth speculating about just because it's not impossible, then we're going to have a hell of a lot of crazy speculation on here.
Forget NC for a minute (though I'm interested in the Reed connection too FLT). The biggest mistake made here was Katherina appointing her mate as Chairman, rather than John Williams (or someone of that ilk).
But in this instance, Williams would have diluted the "only person that knows about football" influence and power that Reed has currently and I would suggest would have been a more stabilising force throughout the club (including players) than Krueger. Do you not agree?
an article i read indicated he wasn't willing to give up his position with the referees association for a temporary role, which it was at the time he was approached. perhaps that ruled him out of consideration when it came to making a permanent appointment.
Well he may have been a good appointment, but Reed has been the "only person who knows about football" on the board for the last five years and we haven't done too badly. Krueger isn't going to step on Reed's toes and has clearly been brought in with different responsibilities in mind. Who's to say Williams and Reed would have worked well together?
It's all just speculation if course, but my instincts suggest that it would have been a better road to go down.
I'd say the biggest mistake was appointing an invisible bean counter as CEO, followed by appointing an unconvincing front man with no grasp of the business he's talking about. the appointments seem to have been designed to let Reed run everything without being in the public eye. He's in the public eye anyway now.
Of course, but then the situation now is a very different one to that of five years ago. As I just said to Sotonist, of course it's all speculation, but I just feel it would have been the wiser move. Time will tell.
I don't know if it's about a lack of another "football guy" on the board. I just think players loved, and were loyal to Cortese, but never liked Reed and the rest, and now Nicola is gone there's nothing keeping them here. That said, if the stories of the board not talking to the players are true then it's pretty embarrassing leadership.
sorry but I get a bee in my bonnet about proliferation of bad information where I see it. I'm sometimes guilty of it myself.
I've worked for many grown-ups, some very driven people and I couldn't believe some of the things they did to get what they wanted. You are right, that I am only throwing speculation out there, but I will say it again... no-one here knows the man. I still see a gap in the NC/Les Reed situation that hasn't quite joined up the dots yet. The closest is whoever (Sotonist , maybe) suggested that maybe Reed is still here because the new Board don't have a football man and that has caused tension upstairs.
priority one when cortese left should have ben putting in place a liaison with the players to replace his influence and completely push it out. If they didn't ignore the issue completely they must have left this to the manager or kreuger. Either strategy appears to be an abject failure.
