Agreed Defoe doesn't deserve a place, and neither does Welbeck. That squad is very light on midfielders and very heavy on forwards. What squad in the modern game needs 5 strikers (6 with Walcott)? I would take both Defoe and Welbeck out and replace with two midfielders, like Xavi and Mata ;)

    Hart

    Johnson Cahill Jagielka Cole

    Milner Carrick Lampard

    Walcott Rooney Sturridge

    Woy is a <doh>

I still don't get what our managers see in Milner either.

He and Bareth Garry are so overrated.

    They're good, solid players

...which Hodgson hopes will balance out the overrated twats that make up the majority of the squad.

Garry Barry i could understand once but he is way too slow now.
Milner i agree, i just don't get it. What does he add? He's a workhorse at best.

Milner's quality, one of the few attacking players we have that doesn't run around like a headless chicken for 90 minutes.

Alex Pritchard and Harry Kane have both been included in the England under 20 squad for the World Cup this summer.

Pritchard has had a fine season and looks a real prospect. Seeing him on Monday evening for the first time in a while, reminded me just how short he is. I hope this doesn't hold him back because he can certainly play. I believe this squad is a provisional one, so I ope he makes the final cut.

With regards to Harry Kane, this will be a big confidence boost to him after what has been an indifferent season. He didn't get much playing time at Norwich as he was injured, and at Leicester, he has only been a bit part player. He must be desperate to get some playing time.

Well done and good luck to them both.

Holtby's in the German under 21 squad also.

I guess Carroll was too old for the under 20s World Cup was he? Shame he missed out on the under 21s.

Messi is only 5 ft 7 inches, shame really, he could have been the 'new Peter Crouch' with a few more inches.

Carroll is far too skilful to be appreciated by Stuart Pearce.

"Messi is only 5 ft 7 inches"

This is what must be drummed into Carroll and Pritchard, and borne in mind by the Academy.
If their resilience in the challenge becomes akin to that of Messi and Modric, their future is
    very bright indeed.

Pritchard made Carroll look tall <laugh>

It'll be interesting to see who comes in next, as it looks like the FA aren't renewing his contract which is strange as results wise he's done very well. Perhaps Hodgson has someone in mind.

I don't think Hodgson has him in mind - but The FA do...
