I think Shaw probably did want away, and it might have been a mistake for him to move but he never publicly stated it. And by not doing so, we got a ridiculous fee for him that IMO was too good to turn down anyway. I think that was a mutually beneficial move for both sides. I also don't remember Chambers saying he wanted to leave.
It was fairly widely reported that Chambers said he didn't see his future at Southampton FC. Tbh, he was only ever going to play at RB for us at present, and I'd much rather have Nat Clyne there in any case. Obviously, he didn't want to be a backup. That's fair enough.
I always have the impression with Shaw that he does what he is told. His agent says, "We are going to Man Utd", Shaw says, "Great". His agent says, "No way are you going to Man Utd, you are better off staying at Saints", Shaw would be, "Fantastic".
Fair play to Chambers leaving he was only second choice right back at Saints. I don't think he's even that good. Did anyone see his last 20 odd minutes in a Saints shirt vs Man U? If not, have look. It was like a lesson in how not to play football.
I believe that Shaw is attracted to the peripheral things about being a PL footballer more than say JWP is. He needs guidance which is why his family are keeping a close eye on him. He has been brought up short by Van Gaal...hopefully he realises that he can't just drift if he doesn't want his career to stall.
