Take the pay rise, do one more season then get your agent to get you a move to Man City or Chelsea.

Contracts mean nothing these days

Harry Kane isn't playing for City this year.

An 8 year contract gives West Ham a whole lot of influence. When they are already talking about wanting 150m.

They can effectively retire him if they choose.

Top player.

I’m not saying he’s a “top, top” player which the media use. I mean, have you ever heard anyone brag about getting to the “top, top” of a mountain? Or their club being “top, top of the league”? ****ing stupid term!!

Its madness of course... but if this is true I actually think its good business by West Ham.

He's going to be a top player for a long time, and he's from their academy so cost nothing. Those will be the wages he'll be asking for from Utd / City etc.

if they get relegated its not like they'll be lumped with him as every Tom Dick and Harry will want to buy him.

As somebody has said - its £83m over 8 years. but they paid no transfer fee for him, and if they need to sell in the next 3-4 years it will be for more than £83m anyway.

The only risk if that he suffers a long term injury that ruins him. but you'd imagine they have insurance sorted for that. or even if not, they've decided its worth the risk.

He's rejected the contract.

West Ham believe they can push on to the next level. Retaining Rice is considered to be a key part of their transfer policy as they think that his presence will attract higher calibre players.
His interview after the UEFA Cup Semi certainly made it sound like he wanted at least one more crack at it with them.

Does anybody else see the catch 22 we are in if we get promoted?

Yeah it is getting to the point that being in the Premier League is unsustainable for most clubs without racking up debts that threaten the existence of the club!

I don’t know what the answer is though, I hope it crashes round their ears before we ever get there, even if it’s 5 seasons or more. Prefer that than going into that s hit hole of a league.
