Something that had escaped my attention but was highlighted to me by a member of our board, in regards to some comments by our Chairman in the recent programme notes from the Fleetwood game.
Although I make my customary purchase of the match day programme, I had failed to initially read properly this addition.
There was quite a large section on message boards and twitter, did anyone else see this?
Even Pantang57 was mentioned.
Although some of us may be repetitive posters, myself included, I would argue that we are certainly not one of the message boards that engage 'in fighting' (no suggestion there was). Also on the whole I believe we also make asserted attempts to stay within the law. The law being a difficult one to judge with none of us being lawyers (I do not think) but just your average passionate supporters with equally passionate views.
I see not606 within the Gillingham board section, as one that covers that middle ground of behaviour, where we do not moderate every word as a dictatorship but also do not go the opposite extreme of being offensive to one another views or towards individuals representative of the club. As supermod, I am always happy to take immediate action in relation to matters brought to my attention within my capabilities, even if it is me that has overstepped the mark.
not606 offers a form of communication to all Gillingham supporters with a current registration of 196 members, excluding removed accounts. Quite a few of these members also meet in their individual groups on match days, such as the Northern Elite.
It was asked in the programme 'if supporters would like to see another form of communication used, maybe through a twittter account or similar, where genuine questions, queries or issues can be honestly answered' even by PS!
Being an active twitter user myself my feedback is that this is an excellent idea and may also help to take some of the speculation and frustrations out of message boards. It is not going to be the answer to hard core feelings or the likes of KentOnline 'Ron' but it certainly goes some way to deliver a better communication link with the club then we currently have.
I am ageing but even I have moved with today's technology, so welcome the idea. There is a bit of me that is obviously nervous that the Chairman could be actively in your face but then he is entitled to express his views as much as anyone else.
Thoughts....
