You have to pity the slopey headed Neanderthal as he’s missing the attention as Piskie is on holiday.
I simply think that the state should have fewer powers over individuals. If avoiding innocent people being killed is of over riding importance then for example you would consider setting the speed limit to be 20 mph everywhere. That would save a lot more than 30 innocent lives in 10 years. You could also save murders by having a curfew or banning drinking etc.
Does this guy deserve love and understanding? Could he be rehabilitated? One of the Bulger killers has repeatedly shown he cant be trusted but hey, he's out and free somewhere in the country
That is partly the point I am trying to make. The death penalty allows cold blooded murder by the state.
What about those who kill due to mental instability. Should we be putting these people to death, or trying to understand what caused the illness and trying to treat these people? It's easier and cheaper to kill than it is to try to understand and treat. That isn't the way forward for our spiritual development.
Okay, fair enough. I was probably a little bit OTT with that particular comment. Don't hang me for it, yeah?
Death will do that, it's only hiag spoiling it at the moment, as both sides are making a good debate.
Come off it, Commie! My participation will guarantee at least half of the pages you get. I'm box office, and you know it.
Piskie isn't here. Ginge and co are backing their views up with stats, the no's are making a bloody good case to counter them. Run along and bore everyone about your avatar or something.
Agree. And that’s one if the hypocrisies of it. We supposedly teach the public that killing people is wrong by...erm...killing those who do.
The fact that some murderers obviously did it doesn't alter the fact that some people are convicted falsely.
Definitely think it should be brought back for certain crimes. Nonces and child killers. Cold blooded murderers. Treason and terrorism to name a few.
If life means life, like in America where they have life without parole, then presumably these would be the types of people who committed crimes worthy of the death penalty. If that's the case then I think them getting killed is a bit of a let off in some repects, think it would be much worse to live 30/40/however many years locked up knowing you will never be free
I’m not calling for the death penalty mate if you read my posts. I’m simply saying if the state doesn’t execute killers them give them life, meaning life. Nothing more, killings wrong no matter who commits it.
I voted for because I cannot trust the government to fulfil the judges ruling because a) it doesn’t want to build more prisons. And b) it wants to put peoples lives at risk in order to save money. If the poll had reflected another choice like ‘Other’ I’d have probably plumbed for that.
