I oppose it's reintroduction and think that the Government should be continuing to campaign for its abolition worldwide.

Think the argument that not having it avoids 'mistakes' however is probably one of the weakest ones and prefer the fact that it doesn't appear to have any effect on crime rates and my own views that punishment should be as a deterrent and a means of rehabilitation and not a state-sponsored act of revenge.

Think this is going to push me firmly into the Loony Lefty camp.

  5. Agree with all of this. I also think that in this day and age too many politicians are swayed by public opinion so you could see it used on a whim because a crime has been awful but hasn't met the strict criteria. To use a cliche it really is a Pandora's box and I would much rather it wasn't opened.

I was talking about a documentary I really like called The Fear of 13 which is about a man on death row, it goes to show how careful you have to be in dishing our that that punishment.
It's on Netflix if you have that.

I definitely think it’s better to be safe than sorry, if you get a few wrong then that’s just trial and error, but on the whole, definitely a good thing.

They should change it up a bit though.

Death by crash test, sprung 150mph into a solid wall. It would help two fold.

Agree with some of that, apparently, it was a deterrent during the '50s and '60s but not now as people don't generally give a ****. Certain types of murders where the evidence is irrefutable I would sit happily with that.

It’s increasingly under-funded and we as a nation have a long and fruitful history of corrupt police securing convictions they know to be wrong.

Also it’s a hell of a burden to put on someone, even an experienced judge, to let them give a death sentence.

The 100% proof is the difficult part.

But would you pull the lever on a man who was found with a bloody knife in his hand crying out in front of a crowd "I'm glad I killed the bitch"'?

A lot easier than before due to the advances in forensic science, although if 100% is not obtainable it should be commuted to 18 months in an open prison with a Netflix subscription.

You can only ever have 100% proof if you have a perfect and totally incorruptible and infallible CPS, which is impossible but definitely impossible given how stretched they are.
