I'm pleased that Mike hasn't sold our best players.... is disguised as I'm glad I've kept hold of our best players.

Thanks Alan.

Say that again when the window closes.

it will be interesting to see what he does let loose in the transfer market.. though he is used to being a puppet at this time of year (see carlos tevez).

as we have already shelled out near 6m for hatem i dont expect much more than another 4m at a very massive push. He will have to have some you tube compiation to get more cash out of mikes pocket.

I lie in wait for the next catastrophic move that will destroy our spirits. Until then NUFC is entertaining again so enjoy it while you can

<doh> Why does he feel the need to say this?! Its almost taunting the other clubs.

"I've still got my best players, come on Spurs, Liverpool, City, come and try and sign them - you know our chairmans a ****, go on - bid!"

On a lighter note... <badger>

Interviews with him pre/post match, and when something happens are good to see, but he is constantly talking to the media about **** all. I reckon he likes the sound of his own voice a bit too much like. Done a decent job at the club so far mind.

With all due respect to Reading, West Ham, Charlton and Southampton; this is the biggest job he's had, so he's revelling a bit in the limelight. Can't blame him really.

He isn't the one doing the stories. It's the media. He'll just speak the truth and then it's up the media whether they want to make a story out of it.

I like it, personally. It's reassuring to hear him say certain things. If he was talking about keeping all of his best players and then suddenly went very quiet for a while, I'd become concerned.

Voice of reason maybe! You've got a point but he should know we're used to this bullshit by now.

If anything happens, by all means teell us.

If nothing happens, shut it!......

Rant over! <badger>

Maybe we are all just too used to Hughton's "tell the media nothing" approach

That's the best way IMO. Pardew is perfect fodder for the media whereas Hughton was a very welcome breath of fresh air by keeping shtum if nowt was happening! That way, when something was said it had some credibility. Anything Pardew says is taken with a pinch, or bowl, of salt <badger>

To be fair I think it's just very basic media spin, in order to abate any fan backlash should we fail to sign anyone in this window...Continuing to tell us having our best players signed up to new contracts is as good as having new signings (true to an extent) is just a method of appeasement.

I don't really get too riled up about it, to be fair, I spend my days on Toon forums talking ****e, why not go on the official site to read it as well?

He keeps talking about new additions to the squad, but no more have came in yet. What is the point in waiting so late !! I just hope Ireland isn't our only signing. ( Apart from Benny of course )

I think it's the panic factor along the lines of it's the last day of the transfer window, the player wakes up bleary eyed, looks around hin and yawns before realising "Christ! I'm still at <club>", phoning agent and saying 'I'll take anything!'.

Club steps in, offers less with the ultimatum that if not accepted he's stuck at <club>.

In reality though the players hold the clubs to ransom :)
