Mané's against Arsenal. He has a history of being robbed of goals by the panel (the one against Sunderland was taken from him) and Mertesacker got the faintest of touches before it crossed the line. Also, both Mertesacker and Tadić have apparently said that Mané was trying to cross the ball and the wind took it in.
You might have fallen into the old trap of not realising that an old thread has been brought back to life. I'm racking my brain. Kane's deflected free-kick vs Aston Villa right at the end of the game, I am guessing.
Yeah it was that one, the one which 100% is his goal so I'm not sure what all the fuss was about at the time.
Yep, shot on target = goal for whoever took the shot. Ball hit the wall, striking the defender on the shoulder and went in. Unless the keeper lined the wall up not in line with the goal or the defender was 15ft tall so hitting him on the shoulder meant the ball was flying over the bar then I don't see how you an argue that it wasn't Kane's goal. The Mane one vs Arsenal shouldn't be changed as the ball was rolling in before Mertesacker's touch, but the one vs Sunderland is debatable as it looks like the shot is going wide and is deflected in. The other one where Bridcutt basically dribbles it in is also an OG as the ball is rolling along the line and he knocks it in, so the initial shot wouldn't have gone in (I may be recalling this one incorrectly)
Ok then. Just checking it was absolutely 100% with no doubt whatsoever PS. The Bridcutt one is not rolling along then line, it is rolling towards the line. I am taking the piss by the way at the "100%, no doubt"
Can't imagine that; he had his head up, and there was literally no one to whom he could be crossing the ball. Pelle was ~12 yards out and beyond the near post, no one else was even close to the box.
Anybody who watches the replays from any angle can see that Mane wrapped his foot around the ball intending for it to go into the net. Either it was either sheer brilliance or a jammy goal. Nobody questions the accepted heroes like Rooney and Messi. I bet they've scored some right jammy stuff in their time and let it go quietly. In any case, jammy or not, it's Mane's goal.
Mane saw the GK was not in the goal and curled the ball in...no way was it a pass, cross or anything else. The wind may have helped but he meant it. I get cross because you know it would be called brilliant if it had been scored by a more well known player.
It was going in anyway and I don't think Mertesacker touched it, so was unlikely to be taken away from him.
No, the dubious idiots looked at it, and decided that although Sadio meant to score, and plays for Southampton, and there was a Force 1 gentle breeze blowing, they could still see no reason to take it off him.
Ahh ok that clears it up. I've still got no idea why this thread has come back to life. The goal is clearly his, for me it looked like he was going for goal and even if it was a **** cross it was still going in on its own
It was because 'apparently' Mertesacker said something about whether Mane intended it to shoot or not, causing confusion, and then when Tadic was interviewed he smiled when asked about the goal, looked over his shoulder, as if to suggest it was safe to divulge a secret, and then said he didn't quite know what Mane intended. But when you play back the goal, there is only Pelle, doing his usual 'to me' gesture anywhere near Mane and the goalmouth, and there is literally nobody between the sticks at all. Nobody, from either side, makes a definite run to cover the area, so Mane curled his foot around the ball and purposefully lifted it over and around the retreating Szczesny, Mertesacker and whoever was the 3rd defender [Koscielny, Debuchy, Gibbs..?] in close attendance who wasn't up to the task of defending the shot. It was quick thinking and a brilliant goal. Then he got injured in the celebration. My guess is that once Victor's weight was added to the crowd, his calf muscle gave way.
I think Mane was injured before that...he didn't run around like a loon (normal reaction to scoring a goal). He was bent over before everyone jumped on him.
