Are you a complete ****ing idiot? I didn't say he should earn the same amount, I said there was no chance he'd ever be able to. If one of us is in a well paid job and loses it we have skills we've picked up that are transferrable to similarly paid jobs elsewhere. We have the initial problem of losing our job and then see that we can get into a similar position again which helps us turn ourselves round. Windass looking knows he hasn't got a chance of doing it so he can never get back to providing for his family the way he has in the past. That compounds the initial problem of having lost the job he loves.
I've never claimed he hasn't been stupid. But if someone lacks the intelligence and/or common sense to manage their life well I can still sympathise with their position when it goes tits up and gets to them, it's not like he's set out to piss everyone off for some malicious reason. People going "oh he's earnt millions so he should just ****ing get on with it like everyone else does" aren't exactly helping things are they?
He has gone back and is trying to patch things up with his wife (HDM article again).
Following on from Gary Speed there's been a few people in sport coming out to show how widespread the problem is. I don't see why it's a problem for people that a reasonably high profile player is coming out saying he's got this problem, there'll be people out there who have been suffering privately not wanting to ask for help who now will because they'll think if even someone successful like Windass can then it's not such a weakness and doesn't make them such a failure to ask for help.
Ricardo, you really are a knob, aren't you! What you have written is not clear, then. You talk about his loss of earnings as if it is a fault of the system; that, to me infers you think he should be able to earm similar in the future or his life will implode. My point is that he has two decades to come to terms with the 'end of the tunnel', he had a wife with a full-time career and a father trying to talk sense to him. Did he invest, re-train, listen to others - no did he ****, he got pissed, he blamed others (remember his Dad publicly trying to get him to stop talking to the papers about not getting selected by Brown?) - he needs to go away, sober up and start listening to those who can help him and stop talking to the media. His loss of earnings and his career change are no worse than what many 'normal folk' (to use your words) have to cope with - the only difference is that his previous high earnings should have afforded him more of a comfort zone. Stop looking for excuses for him - he is perfectly capable of doing that for himself.
When I read his book and then look back over the period since he returned to the KC, it is sometimes difficult to believe that this is not a man who is prepared to piss others off simply because he is a needy twat.
The only HDM reference I have seen, says 'they believe' she may be assisting and that it is he that is trying to rebuild the relationship - hardly a statement that he has gone back.
I have never said he should not have asked for help. or that doing so makes him a failure; what IO have said, consistantly, is that his error was in using a red-top or the media in general to move forward. I, and others, do feel the timing of all of this has a certain bandwagon cringe-worthiness!
