The 29-year-old has been linked with Premier League leaders Leicester City as well as a return to former club, Newcastle United during this window (via Daily Mirror). And the Mirror reported that it was the Foxes that were closing in on a £10m move for the Frenchman. However, the Mirror are now stating that the Black Cats have moved into pole position in the race for his signature, and if they could complete a deal before the deadline, it will certainly be a massive boost to the club's hopes of remaining in the division.
