That's the whole point - she has no 'events of the story'! She has no side to tell - she didn't even bring the charges. She didn't cry rape, she didn't go to the papers, she didn't know a court case would be brought, she couldn't testify because she couldn't remember anything about it, - so how considering all of that can you possibly get from it that she was after money? She wouldn't even be entitled to compensation because there was no violence, injuries or loss of earnings. As to why McDonald would lie - really, you're really saying there was nothing in it for him to lie, like maybe getting off with the charges and covering for his mate?? I don't know how I would have voted on this case, not having seen the evidence and it seems unusual for one to be found not guilty and one guilty. A lot of people are focussing on how drunk she was/wasn't but the judge directed the jury that drunken consent can still be consent so I think the jury would have been swayed by the fact that Evans was not invited into the room, in fact he tricked his way in, so his 'involvement' with the girl was premeditated, he was going there to do it whether the answer was yes or no otherwise what was he doing there, why did he get a taxi to the hotel? Was he in the habit of watching his friends in bed ...
The whole thing is dead shabby. All the people involved are from the very shallow end of the gene pool. I bet the girls parents are proud of her, as are the footballers. As a pure guess having seen as much evidence as I could find, the verdict to me seems to be unsafe. If it is so ruled after the investigation that is now happening,, what do people say then ? Today Sheffield withdrew their offer to let Evans train. My question is, how many times should he be punished and in how many different ways? Having spent 2 nights in a Chelsea Police cell, after being falsely accused and subsequently cleared and apologised to by the Police over a pub fight that I was not involved in, I can assure you that two and a half years in prison was no holiday.
A lot of people are trusting the justice system and withdrawing their association from the club because they are allowing a "convicted rapist" to train with them. What i would like or expect to happen is that if the review proves the conviction was unsafe or even that Evans is innocent then these same people will issue an apology to Evans and the club and ask/beg that their names be reinstated with the club. In the real world this would never happen though because most won`t admit when they are wrong.
There have been too many injustices dished out by our system, which is relatively advanced compared to the rest of the world. But on too many occaisions there are individuals and so called do-gooders that castigate and vilify people that have been caught foul of a law system that is not perfect, (If any can be is another discussion). Evans did his porridge. Now let him rebuild his career in his chosen profession if he can, To those of you who say he is a role model and sets a bad example then I say you are wrong, and remember one day you may fall foul and have an injustice done to you. I hope it never happens, but I know it will to someone,.... When justice is wrongly served, it is far worse than the crime it was intended to punish.
