Yes..Some lovely walks around there..And put the beautiful Herrington Country Park into the mix in that area and it is a great area to spend a day walking.
A canny walk (canny bloody long anarl) you can start at the bungalow cafe at roker and follow the coast path all the way to marsden and beyond. But by the time you reach the grotto you may as well nip downstairs for refreshment.
Not so much these days Comm, unfortunatley the wife isn't so good on her legs, so short strolls are the order of the day now, which is a pity but you have to adapt.
I often cycle over Roker and along the coastal path to the Souter Lighthouse and stop there for a coffee.
Bungalow cafe to Souter lighthouse was always my running route when i was there. Decent run, got to watch your footing at times.
I was always a sprinter/middle distance runner in my younger days and had the fastest 8 hundred meters time in the Sunderland district up until the 3rd year seniors after which I dropped athletics to concentrate on representing the school and district football teams for my year and those up to two years above.. Once it got to 1500 metres and cross country then I was out of my comfort zone. At the moment I'm jogging 3 miles on the tread mill in my quest to lose weight and that bloody kills me..
I was totally opposite. Sprinting speed of Pavaroti. Distance was my prefered choice.
There used to be a lad in our year who was brilliant at cross country..Without even realising it at the time, I used to use him as a pace maker in the 800 meters, where I knew if I could hang on to his coattails for 600 meters I could always out sprint him at the end.. Once it got to 1500 him and a few others could run the legs off me, and when it came to cross country I didn't even attempt to keep up with him..
1500m & two mile cross country were my events at school which I was actually quite good at.
Quite a large village, shops and a couple of pubs on the doorstep, everything is to hand really , we moved here 30 months ago because of the facilities, never regretted it.
Yes the Havelock, used to be ok not sure what it's like now. Yes Comm I think it was..is the Oddfellows at cox green.........memory isn't what it used to be, used to give people directions by pubs....turn right at the cross keys, left at the white swan.......haven't a clue now!
Well its not so much a day trip away, more a weekend away to my wife's cousin's wedding.
We're in a 4 poster bedroom overlooking the sea. The moons out over the sea and the sound of the sea, just a 100 yards or so away makes me homesick.
Bloody weddings go on and on though, don't they! When all you want is a beer and a roll-up, then another part of the ceremony starts up!

Hi mate I live down from Bowness in a village and love the place we often come up on a night and wander over Brant fell up to the Watermill inn at Ings and then back down to the Glebe I am lucky our lass still loves walking, i am doing a old house up down on the Bela put I can't seem to down load pictures or bugger all on to this laptop its driving me crackers, we are off up to Keswick for a week and then down to Langdale the following week for our lads 40th.
Just as well the medals weren't given out on names Vince eh..

Just back from a week in the Durham Dales, then 5 days in the Forest of Bowland.
Cracking countryside in both spots and the Mrs loved it. So did the nipper. Preferred the Lancashire side of Bowland but the 3 Yorkshire Dale peaks were v. impressive for a good bit hiking .
Whee needs Australia - Visited the real Marsden, and had Wallabies in the back garden of the Bowland farmhouse.
