Although I thought he had a good season, one memory sticks out of Lloyd Dyer skinning him during that Leicester match at King Prawn and pace will cause him problems this year during games.
I agree. Messages on this board are in stark contrast to the views of those numpties on the HDM board following their report.
Hardly a surprise imo. Common Sense prevails and Dawson well deserves another year after last season. Tottenham Hotspur for a Testimonial wont be a bad game next summer. Could be a fitting curtainraiser to the PL again. imo, This will be akin to what happened at Man Utd with Gary Neville when Rafael took over. Andy Dawson will start the season as LB but as the season progresses Joe Dudgeon will take over. Both Daws and Dudg have massive pre-seasons ahead but with Jack Hobbs missing from the start we need the experience that Dawson brings at LB. DAWSON is the present But Dudgeon is the future. With Conor Townsend and Max Clark coming through Hull City are well covered @ LB now. Loyalty on both sides has almost been eroded from the modern game. Clubs are lucky if they see 3+ years out of players nevermind 10. Looking around next season, other than Andy Dawson how many other clubs can say they have got players who have been with them for 10 years ? Very few if any i would suggest. Yes. but Steve Bruce is no fool. He knows the worth of good quality expereience. Hardly a cheap option ffs. City dont need anymore LB we have enough at the club. Dawson - Dudgeon - Townsend and Clark. Bruces next priority is a 2nd goal scorer. He should start the season as first choice but i would be surprised if he stayed as first choice LB. Moving into the backroom staff would be the next logical step whilst keeping his playing registration just in case. imo He would not be sold as his contract is up at the end of June. Glad the club have Tottenham in mind for the testimonial game next summer. I blame Barmby for that as much as Dawson. NB should have played Joe Dudgeon left midfield and to cover up and double up on the left. Basic error of judgement on tactics sadly.
Most players will get done for pace by very quick wingers. Dawson was part of a very good defensive unit that only curtailed when we lost Chester then Hobbs through injury. His positioning is generally excellent, he's been there and done it. He'll be as important to us this season as veteran defenders have for other teams like Ian Harte etc who also wasn't the quickest, but his team still did quite well last season
Harte might be the same age, but he has 63 international caps and has played almost his entire career in the Premier League or La Liga, including playing in the Champions League, they're hardly comparable.
Daws would have got caps if he was Irish to be fair. Although I'm with you on the majority of his career being in the premier league and champs league etc.
Max Clarke is 16 and now plays centre back, he won't be turning out for us next season(beyond the reserves) and I expect Townsend will probably go out on loan again, to be tested at a higher level.
But we don't need any more left backs, Dawson will be a good back up for Dudgeon and Cooper can also play there I would have thought
Daws and Dudgeon is enough, no more left backs needed. If we bring in RB cover, either them (depending on skill set) or even Rosie can cover at a push. If the worst happens in terms of injury, recall Townsend and sign a player on emergency loan or whatever. 2 for each position is enough.
Shame Dawson was not Scottish either as the same applies as far as country caps go. Andy Dawson has always been unrated by many in my view. Thats good then as Clark can play 2 positions. I know he wont play for us this season nor probably Townsend. But we have good long term cover for LB. Liam Cooper is also an option if required. I posted a while back that we should send Max Clark to Grimsby as the replacement for Townsend and see if a club like York City will take Townsend. keep them close to hand. Driving you mad ? thought you already were judging from your rants. I do say what i want to say. Indeed so. Hull City are blessed for the long term in the LB position.
