He was on loan somewhere second half of last season. Who is he going to start for? Rayor or Simpson? imo right now Simpsons place is the most likely under threat. Still, don't see Santon walking into the team anytime soon, so yeah, hefty 5 mio for a squaddie.

I see the fact that he has 7 caps for Italy at a senior level by the age of 20 as a positive sign that he can step up to the challenges ahead.

Yes; the Prem is different to Seria A but he's been at Inter for a few years and will have trained and learnt a great deal from his more senior and experienced colleagues.

Ease him in to the games for a while and monitor his progress.

at 5m its a steal, probably worth 20m 2 years ago but his progress has stalled a bit, another international though, atm, are team will **** all over sunderlands over rated english players.

As Smudger has said, a squad player at Inter could easily be a top first class signing for us.

Chivu and Zanetti are top top experienced players, and if Santon can't dislodge them, then it really isn't much of an issue as far as I'm concerned.

Imo Santon has the potential to be better than both of them. However, it seems like he's one of those fragile confidence types, and once he fell out of favour at Inter with the manager at the time, he hasn't found the confidence to get back into his top class performances.

Hopefully, at NUFC, we can bring it out of him again.

Don't forget stupidly experienced Brazilian international fullback Maicon too. Being behind those three (whilst also having full Italy caps at 20!) isn't exactly the same as being behind Danny Simpson and Ryan Taylor. Squad player, who is this numpty?
