    Billy, Syd

Dave did what many of us would NOT do

he put himself on the line with his job to protect us

and he put himself in the middle to referee the game that we love (he refereed local non-league games)

this is where I knew David from and the conversations we had about football where brilliant

I know that both my brother and I are as upset about it now as we were when this incident happened

People have to appreciate what being blind means. Especially people who lose their eyesight from one day to the other are often affected by severe depression. Some people cope with it and kick on and others just can't come to terms with the loss of seeing where you are going. What's particularly tragic here is the newspapers and the police force made this man a public figure, but obviously no one made an effort to make sure he gets the help he needs to learn to live with his impairment.

That's fair enough for you mate. Still doesn't answer why we have these silly rememberance threads when 99% do NOT know him or anything about him. Wrong place for it, its a football board. I feel sorry for the bloke, he got dealt a **** hand. So do many others. If people want to remember him find a rememberance board. Thishas got **** all to do with Newcastle United.

Warm pouch you are a complete clown and hypocrite!

You tell Syd he should not put these posts on a football forum. It's the wrong place.

However you also say that if someone posts on here you are going to have your say good or bad! What an idiot.

So your telling Syd to have respect for a football forum yet you will show no respect to any post or anyoneI assume because your opinion is so worthy.

This was a thread paying resection to a man who lost his life. If you don't like it start a thread of your own saying so. Don't destroy the thread because you don't like it. You are clearly anti police so perhaps you don't like a police officer being respected.

Syd has every right to post a thread on this and many agree. Personally I was brought up with the phrase if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. Is it too much to turn the other cheek, to know the time and the place, or to hold your tongue.

Just because it's a forum doesn't mean you have to have an opinion on everything or have a go because you disagree. I did see the Davey Jones thread, I didn't feel the need to post. Just because someone posts something respectful about a man who worked for an organisation you don't like doesn't mean it's an opportunity for you to post your bile about the police.

So quick to judge, so quick to an opinion maybe not so quick to think.

I feel ambivalent toward the police. I come from several generations of mineworkers and will never forget their part in the orchestrated campaign of thuggery (at Margaret Thatcher's behest) directed toward a group of workers in the 1980s who were only trying to defend their liveliehoods.

In addition, they did nothing as I was tormented by a group of thugs at the housing estate where I used to live.

On the other hand, they have saved me from at least two good hidings at away football matches.

Moat was just pure scum, though, and the news about PC Rathband is just dreadful, on a purely human level.

Hear hear, concretetony and Syd and all others who understand that internet forums may allow people to post anything (in the main) but that does not mean you SHOULD! Respect, responsibility and self-disciplne are words that many posters seem unaware of.

This was obviously a thread to remember a brave man who tried to come to terms with an event that none of us on here can even begin to understand. He was an ordinary man, a human being just like all of us, whose job was to protect the North East public. His life was literally blasted away from him in the most shocking and brutal way and, in the end, he felt that he had lost everything. His death is a terrible waste and I find it extremely sad that some people are so self-obsessed that they feel their personal views override common human decency.

Here we go with the abuse. Mate I couldn't givbe a rats ass what names you call me, if its makes you feel like a cyber warrior, fill your boots. Says more about you than me.

Not a hypocrite at all. My preference is for people to post any thrwead they like and accept any comment which comes. Its only a forum. if you can't do that then you shouldn't post it because its guaranteed someone like ilovehelen or Iqbal will comment. I'm saying it doesn't belong on here because threads only ever cause arguments. Why? Because if someone has a different view, however extreme or ridiculous, all hell breaks loose as people get offended. Just grow a pair and ignore the bits you don't like or ignore it. But talk about reporting WUMS like ilovehelen to police is hilarious. Get in the ****ing real world.

The rest of it is just being an uppity little ****er. If you put it on a public forum, people will comment. I haven't spouted any bile about the police so stop making **** up. I am in a very good position to judge the police given the number of family members who either are or have been in the police. Including one in a very senior position elsewhere in the country, well aware of the problems they have. So learn to read and think before you speak.

Is it too much to keep this miserable ****e off our board? nah. Where do you stop too? **** knows how many people die each day that none of us know, lets post a thread for every one eh?

I'm about to close it and that's sad, I am at a loss to understand why people cant simply ignore a thread that means nothing to them.
