Just got up and our lass told me the news, I'm shocked, the word legend is used too frequently these days on people that really don't deserve to be called that, but David Bowie was every bit a legend, his music had never been heard before, many musicians copied him but non were the original, he can now take his place in the hall of music gods along side the other greats, we don't need to add there names as anyone who knows real music know who they are...cancer takes another among us we did not want to lose. Rest in peace David, you deserve it......
Sorry if everyone knows this but Steve Harley and cockney rebel are Putting on a gig in hull in April at the city hall, it's in aid of the mick ronson Appeal, anyone that loved Bowie should go. Sounds like it will be a great Night.....
For all those that love R&B and soul music have Bowie to thank for discovering Luther vandross, at the time Luther was singing Jingles and back up singing, Bowie overheard him in a studio singing and invited him to work on his Young Americans album. It was luthers first big break...
Pardon the intrusion but I just had to add this clip. Its from the Glass Spider Tour in 1987 at Wenbley Stadium - a gig I had the honour of attending. For me, this is the best live song he ever did. If you have not seen before - enjoy
Honestly can't think of a more influential artist than Bowie over the past 40 years or so - grateful for what he gave us.
What is the Mick Ronson Appeal for? What is the latest on a proper Spiders From Mars tribute in Hull, surely this now has to go to the top of the list of must haves before 2017?
For me the memorial in Queens Gardens should be statues of all 4 of them in my opinion. (Though Woodmansey is still alive, so calling it a 'memorial' is a bit wrong on his part)
I'd like a new stage and statues of all 4, that pathetic stage in Queens Gardens shames our whole city.
After my lecture I went and listened to his new album Blackstar again. After reading Visconti's comments on the album, it was a really tough listen, yet I both enjoyed it more than my first listen and also somewhat hated it as it was his last. It now for me has a very similar vibe to Closer by Joy Division - an album which very much feels like an epitaph. The video for his last single, Lazarus, which only came out a few days ago, is a very surreal watch now.
