Seems to me to be the kind of player that Gayle can feed off and work with, Mitro still not hitting the barn door so we could do with someone who can actually score when the opportunity presents itself.

He seems like a Glenn Murray/David Kelly type signing. Gives you the additional option we need.

    Now confirmed by the club.

    Back up for Mitro.

Actually Murray is the perfect comparison. Murray cost I think £4m at 32. Murphy is sub-£3m at 33. The difference is Murray's an ever-present and important, whereas for us Murphy is an option. Forget me early pessimism, it's right that fee's are utterly irrelevant (see Sissoko for more info), he's a good buy and most importantly an indicator that this club now 'gets it'.

I thought you signed well this summer but this is a ****ing carcrash. 33, 1 year left on his contract, never been worth 3m in his life. Slow as roots(Even at Sunderland all those years ago), poor movement, poor finishing. Should be better in the air for his size. Seem to recall a decent touch but that's about it. Failed to score goals regular at every club he's ever played for and only come good thanks to one of those one off rare chemistrys found in his last strike partner David McGoldrick, who you haven't signed. Strange signing, very strange. Got a feeling you've just flushed that money.

Funny for a Sunderland fan given the Irony. But when he does fail you'll cope with ease with you other forwards(Now they're away from the premier league).

I never said anywhere it would break your season so spare the smart arse sarcasm, In fact I was clear it would have little to no effect at all. Try reading the last line<doh>

Yeah sounds like I'm saying it could break your season doesn't it? <doh>:emoticon-0136-giggl

Nice fail on trying to be clever though. Bite and fail in one. You've made this worth it. ;)

As if you were ever going to come on here and say it was a good signing even if you thought it was the case.

It is a very smart signing. A veteran player who knows how to score goals in the championship in a squad that is better than any that he ever had at Ipswich. People slated the Leon Best signing in a similar vein and that worked out ok.

Irrelevant cause I don't but as you insist on showing yourself up with it ok. Seems you didn't read the first part of my post either, it contradicts your sentiments here definitively. <laugh><doh>

I also gave a very balanced appraisal of Yedlin and summarised he should be a good signing despite his defencive frailties but potentially a very good signing if he develops that side of his game. All this blows your childish accusations out of the water.

Stop showing yourself up lad. Grow up. <doh>

Hmmmm, got a absolute ****ton of goals 2 seconds ago, but not so impressive last season. Tall and gangly, but getting on age wise, so can't be used in his "other" position as a winger, should be OK for stand in striker, but it's hardly Danny Ings.

One thing you will never find me doing is commenting on the Sunderland forum.

I've never understood why fans from other teams comment on other team's business as if their opinion should be valued because they're 'objective'.

You're like the nosy old bint of a neighbour who comes over to comment on your lawn.

That's got nowt to do with what's being said in any way. This is a multi club message board. Seems you're in the wrong place completely, how many mag forums are exclusively for mags? I can think off two and I'm not even a Mag. Just admit you've shown yourself up with knee jerk defensiveness. Go and pick your dummy up chump. I've done nowt wrong. <ok>

As a 4th to 5th choice strker its a no brainer great experience in this league just what we wanted bit like the Harewood signing..........Not sure why your getting all upset by it as it don't really concern you lot but there is the obsession of "them lot up the road element ......blah blah.

I'm not upset. Just commenting on an explayer joining you. I'll decide what concerns me. Seems there's a few of you don't really grasp the multi club message board concept. It's really not tough. <ok> Where is this reaction to the Ipswich fan? I surgest it's you with the rivalry chip on your shoulder. Another mag who needs to grow up. You're whining about irrelevant ****e. Lighten up.

Some right arsey mags about today. <laugh>

    I know how forums work.

Fans have their own sub-forums for teams to discuss their team. There are more general forums like PL, Championship etc. for comment and discussion amongst fans.

The 'dropping in' that fans like yourself do on rival teams is just sad really.

I couldn't even tell you what players Sunderland bought this Summer. Want to know why? Because I don't care.

Because the last two you've signed are ex Sunderland players. What about my comments on Richie, Hayden, Diame etc? Oh wait there aren't any.<doh>

Jesus Albert. You're down to the last few thick ****s round here it seems. Devoid of common sense and basic thinking. <laugh>

I think it all depends on how objective u are. Price is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is he good enough to be 4th or 5th choice striker at any club in the championship? The answer is undoubtedly yes unless you are stupid.

Would I have liked someone better? Yes. However I can't see why anyone is against this from our lot, or why anyone from elsewhere can't see what it's about. We have a very young forward line with minimal experience of the championship. Does he help with that? Er yes. 1 in 3 at this level and Perez/Gayle will benefit when he does get a game.

Do people really think someone really good is going to come and watch Perez/Gayle/Mitrovic and Diame?
