What's the verdict then Cove? From what I've seen, he's an excellent signing!
Should play as RWB not as RB. His strength is going forward, his defending is solid but can get caught out from time to time, especially when the opponent is playing counter attacking football. He is reasonably fast, strong and has a decent cross, which is why you want him to play as RWB. Works best in a 3-5-2 formation that Ronald Koeman played at Feyenoord. Solid jumping and heading to clear corner kicks and free kicks from the side. Okay with tackling and challenging the ball. Does have a wee bit of a temper. Mentally not that strong, when the team was behind I've rarely seen him to try to make a difference. Good stamina and endurance, rarely gets injured and has a good work rate.

Verdict: good signing in general, not so sure about his adaptability, will have trouble adapting to the EPL way of defending. If Pardew uses him only as a RB, I can see him fail.

Oh shhhhh... And your an expert how..? Let's wait and see what happens, he's got to be as good as debuchy at least so try not to use words like fail. He was part of the Dutch team tha finished third

Thanks for that. <ok>

To be honest, I didn't really notice him defending at the World Cup, he was always bombing down the wing. The clips I've seen of him on YouTube, he's always attacking. I now hope something goes wrong with the Debuchy deal, and we keep him here.
That because he only started 2 matches, after that he was benched because Van Gaal went defensively after the Australia match and placed Dirk Kuyt on the RB position. Says a lot when Dirk Kuyt is preferred over a proper defender...

I do think some view his opinion as sacred though when in reality he's just a normal Dutch football fanatic, no different to how most of us are about English football.

Always grateful for his input as it's a good read but it's still just one mans opinion.
I'm not a fanatic, don't even support a team, I just watch it for the game, in all aspects it's different then most of you. I look at players in an objective way and memorize their strengths and weaknesses. In the three years that I've been reporting on this forum, I think I've only had one player that I was a wee bit wrong: Bryan Ruiz.

I've just tried to give you some rep ACS but when I clicked on the icon it wouldn't let me. I got a message saying something like "You must wait until ACS gets his arse out in Fenwicks window before you can give him some rep!"

Soz ! :-)

I will... :)
