Clarke did an amazing job to get the Sags back from the Conference and then up again to L1. Will be interesting how his career goes from here.
Though I'm not that familiar with the goings on at Rovers, the impression is that DC himself felt a bit burnt out and frustrated and so this is possibly as genuine a case of 'mutual consent' as there can be. Without wanting to sound like a fan of a rival club needlessly putting them down, I think Rovers are going to really struggle to stay in League One. Currently I think their stature is that of a club that is somewhere towards the bottom of League One/the top of League Two - there is the potential for them to be a bit better than that as they have a decent following, but being stuck at the Mem, which is pretty meagre by todays standards, doesn't help.
I think he has gone as far as he can with them,Ian Holloway back there wait and see But guess who is favourite Steve Cotterill
More Further development at Bristol Rovers: Assistant Marcus Stewart has asked to be released from his contract, and the club have “reluctantly agreed” Graham Coughlan will take temporary charge of the team at Sunderland. please log in to view this image
.... first time of asking too. Not many clubs bounce straight back from the Conference - it’s a very difficult league to get promoted from. If Cotts goes to the Gas they would have got themselves the best League 1 manager around. They don’t deserve him.
Steve Cotterill, Hollowhead or Paul Hurst anyone? https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/next-manager-bristol-rovers-sky-2323278
Mrs R&W taught Marcus Stewart and Marcus Browning when they were at Hartcliffe School. Shame Rovers have them their careers and not us.
Big loss that for Rovers. I can only see one way for them and that is down. Clarke strikes me as being a bit of a Redknapp/Warnock type manager. Not a 'mental' or strategic type of manager like Guardiola (or even our own LJ I'd say), he's a motivator who will get the best out of players. I can see him being a strong League One and maybe Championship manager. Also I know it's not cool to say on a City forum, but Darrell Clarke once made an amazing gesture at the funeral of a friend of mine who died a while back. I know he was the sag manager but I couldn't have anything but respect for the bloke from that point on. He may have been 'their' manager and he may be annoying in interviews but I wish him nothing but the best in the future.
Wasn't Stewart paired with another player called Hunt when he came to City? If my memory is still working the latter of that pairing had a torrid time at Ashton Gate and was shown the door quickly.
He joined in the 2005-06 season under Tinnion and it was those two up front for the first game, with Brooker on the bench. When Gary Johnson took over he was replaced in the starting line up by the one and only Bas Savage
