He never put a foot wrong against Doncaster, despite being subbed at half time the last time he played left back and being told that wasn't his position. His reward? Never to play for us again since.

You mean Kieran Gibbs the Arsenal and England left back? Who are you going to compare him to next? Glen Johnson the Liverpool and England player who cost 17m?

You were banging on about attacking full backs yesterday, and now you're running them down. Make your mind up!

He should have featured over McCartney last season. As with many things in life (something you seem incapable of comprehending), there aren't just black and white, there's lots of grey in-between. I like the idea of an attacking wing-back as long as they're capable of tracking back when necessary (as Connolly generally does) and I don't think White (or McCartney for that matter) are any good in that role because they get caught out of position. I seem to remember him failing to stop the Doncaster winger a couple of times at the Keepmoat, though maybe my memory is deceiving me. And enough with the old 'you can't compare X with Y' baloney. Players from a lower division can play in a similar manner to those better than them, you know. And I believe that White is similar to Gibbs (and yes, why not, Glen Johnson) in the fact that he's not a sound, solid defender but does look like a threat when attacking.

Looked on a couple of Celtic forums on the subject of O'Dea and the consensus seems to be that he's not good enough, they wish him well but they think he has some good attributes and will be a steady performer who works hard, puts a tackle in and doesn't make any glaring mistakes. Very few people saying he's **** and error-prone.

I actually agree with Clivetime. White is a left back through & through, given half a chance would make an outstanding attacking left back. I've seen him play there a few times including when he made his debut at elland road in the carling cup againsr Palace & not only is he pacey he's also a great tackler.
I really can't see the problem playing him there. I've also seen O'Dea play left back more than once & if he gets the nod over White then it will be absolutely criminal.

Well he won't be any worse than Collins, I'm pretty sure of that. But he doesn't sound any better than Bromby, Bruce or O'Brien, and he'll push Tom Lees further down the pecking order.

If he plays at left back, it would be a centre half playing at left back, something which you insisted Grayson doesn't do, using the example of McCartney who you don't think should even have played!

Agreed, if O'Dea's signed as a centre-back, it's really redundant. Please show me the quote that said Grayson never plays centre-backs at left-back; I said that he favours attacking full-backs more than he does the centre-back played there, something I then supported with evidence. And yes, I've consistently said that I wanted McCartney out and playing him was a stupid decision by Grayson, it doesn't affect the fact that he favours the attacking full-back: in fact it shows that at times, he's placed too much faith in it. We don't know yet that O'Dea will play like a centre-back; for all we know he could make some good ventures forward and support the wingers, but yet again people are eager to write off our chances.

At the time of my comment the official Leeds United site said that the clubs had agreed a loan deal and it was left to a medical and personal terms. As for spouting drivel(you certainly talk a lot of ****e), I was responding to the ****ing drivel that was being levelled at the young lad before he'd even played a ****ing game for us.

Shako, have to agree with you there. Give the boy a chance before we get on his back.

If you can picture Richard Dunne plying left back only more cumbersome & less skillful, that's Darren O'Dea.

Well over the 40s years supporting this club I've always given a player the chance. Nowadays it seems that every Tom, Fatbob and Harry think they know more than the professionals. It's a joke. These eejits will be the same ones cheering the lad if he does do well. ****ing hypocrites.

    You're saying ridiculous things, Leeds-18.

You may want to go round in circles with yourself, but I'm not doing it with you.

Well in the 40 years that I've supported this club I've always given the player the chance too,& will do with O'Dea,but surely if we feel a little underwhelmed by a signing we're allowed to voice an opinion? Surely that's what we pay extortionate prices for,to entitle us to have a say? My opinion of this signing is based on the times I've seen him play at left back,& my view is that he's not very good. I haven't given my opinion of him as a centre back because I haven't seen him play there.
Of course no-one on here knows more than the professionals(although reading some of the **** that's being spouted on the Southampton-Leeds thread half of them think they're tactical geniuses!),that's obvious, but if that were the criteria for posting on a football discussion forum only the managers themselves would be allowed on it,& how boring would that be?!!

I'm quite prepared to change my mind about something if I see something to change it.

I thought Ross McCormack was poor after the first few games, but he won me over.

What do you think I should change my views on?
