He had a lot of pace but missed a lot of chances. He couldn't head the ball and had no strength, so no all-round game.

I'd take Kevin Phillips and Jermain Defoe over him any day of the week.

Couldn’t head the ball ? Had no strength ? Are you ‘aving a laugh ? I suggest you actually watch the goals.

His best goalscoring record during his career was at Sunderland. I've seen enough of him to make a judgement. He barely challenged for a header especially if it wasn't to get a shot on target.

I agree he wasn't a hold up player so didn't challenge in the air for high balls hit long to him, but that wasn't his game.

His goal scoring record for us and you speaks for itself and we're not talking about L1 standard, we're talking about the likes of Man U, Chelsea, etc etc

If you don't rate him that's fair enough, but I think his record against the best players in the prem really can't be doubted.

I do rate him. I think he's a bit of a dick for following the money to Villa and that turned out to be the start of the end of his career.

I'd say he was an above average premier league striker, I was just making the observation he didn't have the full package like a couple of other strikers I have seen at our club.

Obviously didn't see much of his career at Sunderland - I have enough trouble seeing Charlton games, but he was a fantastic player for us. While we were muttering that he deserved an England call up, he may not have been good enough to make the grade, but he transformed us, and we had recently had Clive Mendonca and Andy Hunt firing them in. Just makes it more painful when we start with the likes of Bogle or Hemed
