Starnes interview today confirmed this all happened on Monday and DC said his goodbyes to the staff and squad that day. Why the hell are we just finding out about it today? Probably wanted to sell more tickets for Sunderland first I bet.
Ever noticed how the manager situation often entails the same people who have been sacked for failing somewhere get another gig at another club? It's like a merry-go-round with the same old names cropping up as soon as somebody goes. Not much different in the top leagues either. Mark Hughes fails and then get the gig at Southampton where he fails sort of thing. There MUST be a young up and coming person out there somewhere but will anyone take a chance on them. If clubs go for a starter manager it always has to be one of their own from a former life playing. Take a bleddy chance on somebody I say. You just never know what you might throw up by doing it.
Thankyou sensiblegreeny I have said many times why would we get rid of our most successful manager in recent times to get a consistent failure, with Marcus leaving why cant we try to get someone like Gary Cahill and see if he is interested in starting a managerial career, he would have connections with Chelsea, Derby through Frank Lampard as well as Glasgow Rangers through another ex England team mate or alternatively offer the job to Chris Hargreaves our development manager. They would all have a chance to bring fresh ideas into the job without the baggage of failure at another club
I personally don't want Hargreaves as manager. His last managerial job wasn't too good. Although that was with a struggling non league Torquay side who had zero money. Any manager would struggle there.
IMO Paul Hurst would be the best appointment - worked well at Shrewsbury on a limited budget - no baggage (like Cotterill would bring being ex-City). And he's available!
Darrell Clarke is a decent person, so I'm sorry to see him depart. Don't for heavens sake appoint Steve Cotterill, he hasn't been a success for a while anywhere ! Paul Hurst worked wonders at Shrewsbury so he might be worth a punt, but I reckon one of our old managers Michael Appleton could be a good shout. He was great with us, and only left due to our awful financial position, and one of our dodgy owners at the time not supporting him properly. Good luck ! Hope you make the right appointment, and avoid relegation
Some of those mentioned appear to have had more clubs than Tiger Woods which rather suggests that they are not that good, we need to get it right this time, and if he was that good why did our neighbours get rid of him
He wasn't a great success with us. He was the dozy prat who happily released two of our best young players at the time, in Matt Ritchie (now with Bournemouth and Scotland) and Marlon Pack (now with your lot). Most fans were extremely happy when he went !!
I have only known us to be this way We dont have a sugar daddy and we were fooled to believe these new owners would be different but hey ho. Rag ass Rovers we remain
Well he wont get on with our club then Dodgy owners at our place too and financially not in a good place either.
All that tells me is that he is good with money available to him but elsewhere, not so good when on a tight budget
