I think this is a good signing. Is it the one that will help win us the league? Probably not but at least Wenger did something about replacing our first choice striker while out injured. Welbeck is a fighter and he is good in front of goal but he needs service, I think he will get that at Arsenal. I will reserve judgement until Christmas, which I think is when he'll prove himself to be worthy or a Mikal Sylvestre type dud. He knows the prem as well as any of the top strikers so I'm hoping he will hit the ground running at Arsenal.
He looked lively for England tonight, strong and quick and with an eye for goal. I think he'll do really well for Arsenal.
Of course it's a recent thing for Christ sake - why are we arguing over such a juvenile point? We are a club any young player would love to play for....especially one who is not getting love from his existing club as we know how patient (too patient?) Wenger is....plus the attacking football etc. The British contingent is a plus for an English player, not to mention that we are big club etc etc - there a lot of boxes we tick for any footballer. Also, the definition of "envisage" can be broadened to include "Arsenal is a club where I could fit in if I had to leave United". However, a United at their best under Fergie, with him being played regularly is not a team someone with United in his blood would ever envisage leaving for another club...even Real Madrid (barring a doubling of salary offer)
As a fan, I have a memory lapse as soon as a player joins the club. Anything he did before, or said before means nothing. Even the way he played before is put aside. If we had bought Balotelli or Suarez, they would have got a clean start-over. If Welbeck, as a player wants to have a memory-lapse as well, that's fine by me. If he is saying the right things, that means he wants to do well and make a good impression. That is a good thing.
Or he could be saying "I was talking to the arsenal English players whilst on England duty and they used to tell me how I would fit in with our style of playing". If he was to say something like that then we would all understand what he means by envisage, he didn't say he has "dreamed of playing for arsenal" he said envisaged which I take to mean he had thought about the possibility of. As to the rest of the interview he didn't come out with the crass "I have fulfilled a lifelong dream" or "this is my dream move". He we respectfull about his past and was excited about his future. Actually a very mature interview.
I'm quite sure even RVP would have envisaged himself playing for Arsenal last season with the sack of s**t he had to play with at United. But who'd have thought that, just 2 years after RVP left us to make the step up (and at the time it was a step up) players are leaving Manu for Arsenal as a step up, must be a real kick in the balls for RVP. Even Vermaelen told United to **** off.
You ****ing moron We sold you our 4th choice striker. Replaced him wirg one of the worlds best strikers. And you call it a step up . Give up ffs, youre embarrassing you fellow supporters.
4th choice according to who Moyes? Ultimately you have a guy like Rooney on almost 300k a week deal, it's highly unlikely he is going to get dropped. Sometimes a big reputation gets in the way of subjectivity.
He was 4th choice, 3rd on occasion. The likelyhood of welbeck coming on up front was very unlikely. Out wide yes, but that made him second choicr to ashley young
