You are just completely wrong. He is so over-criticized by our fans. One of our best players tonight, and the best fullback in the squad.

I'm on the fence with Simpson, he's certainly not a very good footballer but in fairness to him how many times has he saved us points with goal-line clearances as well, people seem to conveniently forget those. If he's the one who took that throw in though he wants shooting, unless that was Ben Arfa.

Be careful what you wish for, because most want Pardew to ditch Simmo and make Santon the regular RB.

So far Simpson looks a world-class defender compared to him. Davide might be better going forward and I hope eventually will come good, but he looks lightweight defensively.

I still think Danny Simpson is unfairly underrated and those that dislike him ignore all the good work he does, focusing on the negatives. He's no Micah Richards but most aren't.

The truth is tonight we got beat by a team that wanted it more and are technically better at retaining position. Against the better teams we can't stifle them by keeping hold of the ball – that's the first line of defense.
We chase shadows, eventually steal the ball and give it right back, very very cheaply. Check the possession stats and weep.

However the lads still worked bloody hard just to attain the right to stay in the game. Too easy to underestimate how tough that is at this level...

i dont like to criticize our own players but i think our defence would be much more solid with a better player there, RB is a must in summer and CB cover! Simpson aint bad i suppose but he can really switch off at times and its always seems to lose us points

Edit: Santon RB and new LB! He has way more potential thenwhen jose did when he 1st came IMO!

Simpson was top class for 94mins and horrific for one. Gutted but I'm not into getting on players backs.

Not getting us much wins at the moment, need to move on from tonight and hopefully get a much needed 3 points from the Norwich game on Sunday.

Davide Santon will eventually end up as a winger in my opinion.

    Here, here – well said.

Goals can be attributed to attacking brilliance or conceded by defensive mistakes, just depends on your perspective.
You could equally ask why no-one bothered to cover Simpson or broke their neck to track Walcott and stop the cross, it just goes on and on.
Look at the ground Vermaelen made up to score – any of our players could have chosen to shadow him, but they were utterly knackered.

Disappointing because of the hardworking performance for 90+ minutes, but Arsenal deserved to win no question.

Roll on Sunday (sick of these non-Saturday fixtures) and Norwich. Better not be another Wolves debacle!

    You hear Pardews comments?

Simpson got injured and he couldn't sub him. So get off his back. Guthrie or someone in the middle should have taken a yellow card in the middle of the park and break up play and not let them run all the way into our box. It's a tough one to take. Arsenal and in top form and we competed. So really the performance can't have been that bad. Unlucky in the end, Krul wound them up with his time wasting and I dont think that helped us. All the nit picky with van Persie didn't either.

What he did in the dying seconds just confirms that Fergie was right to let him go.

He threw the ball to Ba, instead of the much stronger and much fresher Shola Ameobi. Ameobi was doing a cracking job holding them off, but he lobbed it into a crowd of Arsenal players instead. That decision cost you the point. Even if Shola puts it into row Z by the time the ball is back on the pitch it's full time.

I can't agree about the RVP/Krul stuff, I think that is just football and has no real bearing on the result. Everyone is fired up anyway. I think its a very salient point though about taking a yellow card. Someone should have been poleaxed to stop play.

You can see why he's upset though. We have Benni coming into rude form and looking a bit of something special. He did tear their first choice full back a new ring too. Then when the brought on the "international" he just joined in getting bummed off him. Whereas they have Sessegnon who is very good but looks a certainty to be on his way to Liverpool, Arsenal or Spurs. The realisation they'll be 2nd best to us for a while again is disheartening. I feel sorry for him. I know you'll all say "he's a bellend and a WUM" but nevertheless I can't help but pity his situation. We wouldn't like it.

Are all newcastle fans in denial about ben arfa or summat. I have never seen a player so easy to run past or with so little heart, Arsenal attacked him all night.

Think I over reacted a tad at Danny simpson last night. Very raw after that loss. Our midfield should have done more to cover him.

Players looked out on their feet, because they worked their asses off. But just one more minute and the jobs done. Just frustrating as f*ck.

Still madness from Simmo tho. If he was up their trying to win the game then fine, but to just time waste?! Illogical.

I don't blame you going overboard, was a very frustrating way to lose goals. Simpson was at fault but the lad had a good game. I also thought Perch did ok when he came on but again could have got tighter to Walcott to stop the cross. But really they all need to shoulder the blame as any one of them could have wiped someone out to slow the game. It was a bit naive. Pardew seemed keen for Danny to take the throw. Normally I'd agree but at that stage Pardew should have done as you say and told him to just drop and leave for someone to throw it to Shola.

I think the last 3 games showed clearly that we have a very young team that is naive at times. Throwing away 2 goal lead against rock bottom Wolves when we're cruising? Getting wound up by cattermole and nearly throwing away the derby? And now losing a point in the last minute because we can't just hold it up. Fact is though Arsenal were better in all accounts, but I think we were good as well. It was a tight match.

We've been getting beat 3-0 by arsenal for the last 6 years or so, they've been a dodgy team for us. Last year we took 4 points off them and we were unlucky not to split the points this year. Overall we're improved vs arsenal so I'm not too upset. Taking anything from the emirates would have been a bonus. They're the in form team in the league right now. Not sure if they thought they could win it yesterday, but as it's been pointed out, someone should have just taken a yellow card and comitted a foul.

Also I'm suprised there hasn't been more talk about Koscielny. Clearly imo he should have recieved a second yellow for that lunge on Coloccini. It wasn't malicious or dangerous or anything but a clumsy tackle and a yellow card offence. Had it been Willo up in their half I'm sure he would have been off with a shrug from Webb indicating you silly boy, have a shower. Koscielny gets the talking to of a life time like it's an international friendly game. Koscielny later of course played a role in the goal.

As for Krul, i think his head is a bit inflated, sure he's a great goalkeeper. But isn't van Persie the captain of the dutch national side too? He's not doing himself any favours in regard to his future holland career. Immature of van Persie as well of course, who's known to have a temper, however, Id rather Krul would shut up and focus on organising his defence. I'd also like to see Colo be more vocal, at one point he had a right old go at Willo who was asleep in the first 20 minutes, but overall not much communication to be seen from the skipper.

Finally youre not going to win games having running arguments and handbags with people. And lately our team seems to get wind up at just about anything. Needs to stop. Cabaye and Tiote are hotheads. Simpsons started being one as well. And it's disappointing cause they are supposed to be the more mature players.

    This,.

Losing at the last moment stings, but the fixture is one that you write "0 points" next to.

We just need to get back to doing well in games like, say, Norwich at home. If we do that, we'll be fine.
