After last night's England game, where the national team didn't play too bad, it has to be said Glen Johnson had a poor game. The number of misplaced passes was awful! Surely it's time for Simpson to be called up to the squad and given a chance? Now I'm not for one minute claiming Simpson to be the next Cafu, but surely on recent form he's better than Johnson? (although Johnson has improved since playing at LB)

What do you guys think? Will Simpson be given a chance in the near future, or will the fact that he doesn't play for one of the 'top 4' hinder his chances?

As much as I like Simpson, he is not ready for an England call up.

Does anyone else think that Ashley Cole played **** last night? Going forward he was ok but defending, and he is supposed to be a defender, he was terrible.

Johnson was terrible last night. Richards is struggling to get a game at Citeh, not too many other options for Capello in this position though. Not sure Simpson will get a look in til we make Europe.

I don't think he is ready for an England call-up yet, but certainly in a few years time once he has established himself as one of the best RB's in the PL.

He certainly deserves a call-up more than Walker...

I like Simpson but I cannot see him being any more than backup for Johnson/Richards at best.

Unless he has massive improvement over the next few years I can't see him breaking into the England setup, he's canny but the only reason he's getting games for us is because Beye left.

He won't get a call up as capello overlooks players who play in the North-East

Joey Barton most in-form english midfielder and Kevin Nolan 10 league goals from midfield fantastic!! both should have been selected for the friendly against Denmark

^ Exactly. As funny as it may be that Capello and Bent both say the switch to Villa helps with England chances, it speaks hideous volumes about Capello's pathetic bias. Picks big name players at big name teams and only branches out when the papers start to talk.

Onuoha would be my first choice, Johnson has been woeful for a while. Simpson should be in the squad though, he's been solid this season and was unreal against Arsenal.
