Danny Kedwell

Cannot knock commitment and at 29 he still has a couple of seasons to go before he starts to fall into the Mad Dog age category for permanent selection. Wish Keds all the best with his aim.
 
With martin allen stating he is building a side to compete for the top of division one next season, i'd strongly recommend that danny kedwell is not that answer to our attack, not even for the remainder of league two should we achieve what we want to do.
yes he was top scorer last season and currently this season also...that's not saying a lot where our crop of strikers are concerned at present though is it !
but sorry regards kedwell, sentimental aspects seem to be taking over the reality of what makes a club successful or moving forward...that's not keeping a player at the club because he quotes he will always support the club and give his all, which is also debateable !

No, he's not my cup of tea in making us a force higher up the ladder.

Welcome to the forum -you'll learn that I am as passionate about the Gills as you can get- therefore I hate to criticise anything or anyone (especially fans - honest ) connected with it.
However -The quote by The GillsPegLeg is hardly a positive endorsement of Kedwell's scoring ability. I can't fault Kedwell's desire, and his work rate ( most of the time ) - but as a No.9 he should be scoring more.

Another swipe at MA, brb this is becoming a habit. My understanding is Kedwell has found a brilliant pie shop in Gillingham so really doesnt want to move.

Please accept my full humble apologises Lenny, on my MA habit. It appears I have also made a very big mistake. I earlier stated somewhere that players had to fit into the age category 32-33, overlooking that Nelson is 31?

Therefore I would like to correct that fatal oversight and remedy it to 31-33 age bracket, at least Jackman can remain safe in the knowledge, one more year before he matures in to an experienced older footballer, ready to 'Smash' League One.

While talking of pie shops, how is MA doing with setting an example to the rest of his 100% 'TEAM' fitness regime?

On the contrary, my interpretation of his post suggests that pegleg is a Danny Kedwell fan (nothing wrong with that). My post while somewhat tongue in cheek, questioned his perceived ability to know what I and others thought in respect of DK's scoring record. For the record, I wish he was scoring more.

I realise that TheGillsPegLeg is a fan of Kedwell - but he wasn't singing Kedwell's praises very loudly. I really would love for Danny to bang in a few (lot) more goals ( we'd all like that ) - but I am being as kind as possible when I say that as a No.9 he should be scoring more.
 
I have been critical of Kedwell on here in the past, but for whatever reason this season results have been better when he has played and we were the top scoring team in the division last season with him leading the line, no question he works hard and wants to win both as a player and fan. As for his goalscoring record, I think its about 1 in 3, very similar to Iffys record in his first spell with us, and not far behind the likes of Asaba, Jackson and King who all averaged about 1 in 2.5 (all be it Kings were all scored in the championship). I am not sure that DK can play at a higher level than this, if we win promotion I can see him being shown the door, I seem to recall when Pulis side got promoted with Fortune West and Bailey, Leo was soon moved on (his scoring record was about 1 in 4) but he was similarly important to the promotion winning side.
 
Football seems to be more tougher in League 2 than at League 1..I honestly believe that Kedwell will be a more productive goalscorer in a higher division! But I dont think Kedwell record is bad at this level! Scores goals regardless that half have been from the spot!

I think that is a fair comment. People automatically assume a higher division is tougher but I bet the Conference is tougher than both of them.

Well I do I like Keds, my comment was aimed at the people who thinks he never scores. I too would love it if he banged in a few more. But I do agree about the stereotypical Number 9 But you have to remember Kedwell also does a lot of the hard work that a Number 9 should be doing to release the number 10 (albeit more 20,17 or 24 in this case)

So from what you say, your logic is that by the time you get to the premier league/higher up the league pyramid all strikers...or so called strikers should find it easy to come by/score goals...please !
plus the fact a pro footballer in our keeper stuart nelson commented after the vale defeat, that if we reach our aim and go up a division come may, we will need to be more aware from a defencive point of view because attacking players will punish you like pope and hughes did with the only couple of chances they had all game...is that aload of rubbish is it ?


sorry brb but kedwell won't improve us further up the leagues and his efforts in this division are debateable, whilst conference football really is not a harder place to score goals mate.

wait and see...danny kedwell if still here will not cut it a league above !
 
gills4ever, I made no comparison to the Premier League. I just said people automatically assume a higher division is tougher. I'm sure Leeds fans as an example need no reminding of that. As for the Conference I regard that as a league of hell, if you go down there do not expect to come back up in a hurry. So if you like it is a tougher division than League One or Two, I did not say it was a better quality.

Look at the FA Cup fourth round, who do we see but Luton Town and Macclesfield Town, that has been one hell of a long journey for them but they have made it against all the odds. Then glance down the conference with trips to places such as Grimsby and then another local side Dartford challenging for the league football playoffs. I think I counted no fewer than 12 ex league clubs.

The trouble is people make assumptions and no where to my belief have I rated Keds, other than give any deserved and appropriate praise. I might say things like fair comment but do I believe Keds is an out and out striker, no way! Keds is a hard worker, strong player but that is where it ends for me. If I have rated DK has some people are now noting him, then I would say he is more valuable anywhere else positioned on the pitch but not directly up front. I would rather see Birchall or Weston there then Keds, with Danny Kedwell behind them, much the same role as a Bayo. We should never have missed out on Tomlin but that is yet another story.
 
Just a thought about how bad Kedwell scoring record is. Does anyone remember a certain Mr Hesky, Was he not a centre forward with a much worse scoring record who went on to play a couple of games for Liverpool and erm England.
OK i know Hesky played at a higher level but at this level Kedwell is just as important.:cheesy:
 
The Heskey comparison has some relevance because England scored plenty of goals with him in the team but it was Michael Owen who tended to score them. That takes nothing away from Heskey's performance. Gills goal output is prolific with Kedwell in the team as was the situation at Wimbledon. In these circumstances it should be of no concern whatever who scores them. As has been pointed out before, MacDonald scored many more goals two seasons ago than did Kedwell last season but the TEAM scored many more last year than the season before. Point made.
Kedwell is excellent at league 2 level with his all round effort and running but like some other contributors he might struggle in league 1. Then again if he is not selected in league 2 we may never know if he can cut it in league 1 because we will not get there.
 
A most recent comment made by our dear old dan kedwell made me smile of sorts. on matters of being a striker for his favourite club and what he needs to do to improve more.

most notable was this "it's nice to score in open play(vs port vale) and i know in myself i need to score more but i've been in and out of the team and it's very hard to get momentum going and obviously keeping your match fitness up doesn't help when not playing"

danny boy there is one reason and one reason alone that you've been in and out of the side, that's the general matter you were brought in to the club for...TO SCORE GOALS...in any shape or form but it's not happening "hence the reason your dropped". we as a club are setting up numourous chance each match and you just aren't sharp enough or on the right wave length as a prolific striker should be and it won't improve any either, no matter how much you build yourself up in the media spotlight...some might not agree but your now punching above your weight in this division and that's saying something !
