What is his best position ? ( given the current squad )
I was pleased to see the passion after he scored @ 2-2. It was a rare occasion ( of late ) where he got himself into the middle to receive Lee's throw and put it into the net in one movement. I have recently tentatively voiced a doubt that we are using Kedwell properly when he's been wide out on the right, ESPECIALLY given the impressive distribution of Gazza to get the ball quickly to the front line. I feel that Kedwell is very capable to flick on to Tomlin, Kuffour ( or Charlie Lee :grin:) -Kedwell did a lot of this against Torquay- The first real time that Kedwell got into the middle last night he scored. I feel his best position is as a middle striker - they used to be called centre forwards.
 
I was looking back at AFC Wimbledon's statistics from last season and this time last year Kedwell had scored 22 goals for us Dons!!
 
I think he played as a centre forward for the Dons from what I can remember from the few away games that I seen him play. I work in the burger van at Kingsmeadow so don't get to see any of the home maches as we are situated at the side of stand instead facing out onto the pitch.

I think he is a Centre Forward, personally, He has played that position at most clubs now and when he is used like that he is successful, from what I can remember he has been played as a Target man at Herne Bay, Welling, Grays Athletic and Afc Wimbledon and he has been successful, he has seemed to get more goals when he plays as a centre forward, mainly he has played at clubs which use 4-4-2 though so it is a bit different here, and at the clubs which they have used 4-4-2 they have played Kedwell just a bit behind the other striker so that he can sit behind the player for them to pass back for him to score.
I would rather see him played as a centre forward, with us using a formation of 4-4-2 with Tomlin and Kedwell up there.
To do this would mean that we have a striker on the bench, I think the only other good option that we have is Miller who from what I have seen is good, but it is good to have someone like Kuffour on the bench as he is lacking the goals now and is not working as hard as he did when he was on loan, personally I think he needs that kick up the arse, something we were told by the gas when we signed him.

I would play a team like this

It is something that I knew about and as I know how he has played over the years from seeing him first person it was best I gave my view so thanks, wish Keds got played like that as it is sad when he is played in the wrong place as I would really like to see him played at his best.
I can remember when I went to watch him at Welling with my uncle and he was played as a target man and he was amazing for them, he always looked above that level, he played there with Jamie Stuart, who he played with at Grays and Wimbledon aswell,
I used to go and watch Keds with my uncle nearly each month years ago as he used to take me when he used to go with Trevor, Danny's dad, and he has played upfront with some really good players over his time, but at nearly every club he has been at he has been the best player.
 
Hoadie - have to agree with brb ( both about the stick you get and with your team suggestion.) We need to have a striking option on the bench. Kuffour, at the moment would be 3rd choice striker and the option to bring on a fresh 'good' striker is essential.
I think Charlie Lee is best in midfield - it was great to see him driving forward and joining the forwards and creating the chances that eventually saw us win last night. I would suggest that Spiller was playing better ( before injury ) than Weston, ( for the most part ) has shown this season - another good option when he returns -but Hess would need to make an early change if it's not working...... I am glad that he gave Evans until half time - although he had a shocker, to take him off sooner would have destroyed his confidence - I am sure he will have learned a lot last night.

I would still play Evans even if he did have a bad game as he is a quality lad who will just improve and improve also once Spiller is back I would put him in the team and Weston would drop out, then my bench would be like this


Hawkes
Richards/ Davies
Weston
O.Lee/ Miller
Kuffour

By the way does anyone know where Richards was last night as he was not on the bench.

I agree with everything said here regartding Keds' preferred position and style of play, he is an old fashioned English centre forward.

Unfortunately we aren't playing a style that suits his ability. He is not the most mobile of players, so the 4-3-3 formation doesn't work for him, as it requires (ideally) three mobile forwards to feed of each other. The target man sysytem doesn't really work with 4-3-3 as the front three are spread too wide to create width.

As Hodie said 4-4-2 is the best formation for Keds but it doesn't suit us at the moment as to make the best of the formation we need too out and out wingers, which we don't have. Unfortunately for Keds he is a square peg in a round hole at the moment and I understand his frustration on the pitch.

I think 4-4-2 would work with us as you can have Charlie Lee on the left and Whelpdale on the right, they might not be the fastest options you can have but they would work well like that, it would be a strong midfield, which makes us a more physical team, which improves the mentality of our team. I personally think it would work as not all teams have fast wingers, and they still play well.

I have agreed with the consensus of the team selection. In creating this thread I did mention Gazza's distribution - which is more suitable to having a big target striker. We dont have real pace / conventional wingers - although Charlie joined up well with the front line, and puts in a decent cross. With a fully fit squad we might consider being fluid with the formation, be it 433 or 442 or even 451 when necessary - but would need the essential players on the bench ( that might be Kuffour or Kedwell or Tomlin etc depending on the circumstances ) - and Hess having the courage to make changes in good time - because if it's not working, and decent options are available - use them early(ish) - not 5 minutes before the end.

I am not sure it will, Lee and Whelpdale out wide is an option but from what we have seen earlier in the season they both have a habit of coming inside and then we lose the shape.

Alwayright... the joy of having a keeper who kick well means we can hit the space behind defenders and have quick players run on to it, as we do with Tomlin as opposed to trying to hit a target man, although granted you do make a good point. Looks like we have options now?!
 
We can see the conundrum that faces the manager; play 4-3-3 to compensate the lack of width or 4-4-2 and play the club's strikers in their preferred positions. I would urge that the greater good surely comes from having Kedwell playing conventionally with a partner.

The left side looks good with attacking and defensive strength. Right back is given extra protection not seen in 4-3-3. Lee will distribute the ball well to the forward outlets as well as giving Essam and King more protection.

That is a good idea but I would swap that around a little bit with Kuffour on the left side of midfield instead of Tomlin and then Tomlin can be upfront.
 
Kuffour on the left hand of midfield would be social suicide. I agree that Jacko is relatively strong at full back but he needs support and wouldn't get a lot of assistance from Kuffour at all.
 
Kedwell has to play centre forward
I think we will play 44 2 with kuffer on the bench. lee in midfield. Not sure if King will be fit enough.
 
gioblues, i think king could do with a rest for the good of him and us, but in no way will simon king want to miss the plymouth game after being there on loan earlier this season, so i expect him to play.

also dropping kuffour to the bench, won't do us any favours or him.....some players respond to being rested/dropped, but i really don't think he's the sort of player who will take to that in a positive way....he needs to be on the pitch, he'll come good again and push us forward, keep him upfront with tomlin and bring kedwell off the bench for me.

nice to see hess is sticking with playing jack evans again this weekend as well...it needs to happen and our away support will back him, making him a better stronger player for it!
