Massively improved player under Pardew. Always had ability but has lacked the desire to use it. Has come back fitter (chops have gone this year!) and cut out some of his stupid free kicks as a result. Was quite happy to see him go up until this year but now I think there is a definite role in the squad for him. Would he be my first choice? No but Cabaye and Tiote will miss a lot of games due to their appetite for a tackle. I've seen enough of Danny this season to think he has changed his ways. yes he is still picking up a lot of niggling injuries but the lad has ability. Had a shocking 2nd like everyone else on Saturday but has been very good this year. I've been his biggest critic but credit where its due.

Been really impressed with Guthrie, though a lot of the critisism he got earlier in his career was unfair as he was played out wide. Whenever he has played in the middle has done a solid job. Lets not forget he was instrumental in getting us promoted. Definately deserves a new contract in line with some of the more established players with smith leaving this year take some of those wages and give them to guthrie.
IF we get into europe next year we will need a strong squad and although he may not play every game he will be needed

He's the exact sort of player we need to sign up for a SQUAD place if we're serious about Europa league. He's a great back up option but my first two will always be Tiote and cabaye, unless they played a 4-3-3 allowing them all to play.

Comparing him against cabaye isn't really fair on cabaye IMO as when Tiote is away, Cabaye has to sit back and do his job rather than his own game.
