If Ben Arfa and Santon have to wait their turn because of Best and Raylor's form, does that mean Tiote must do the same with Guthrie? Cant be having double standards...

It is an interesting one. I'm not a big Guthrie fan so I'll obviously say play Tiote. But in fairness, I think a lot of our success has been because Pardew has treated everyone fairly. Ryan Taylor is repaying him in spades at the moment for the faith he has shown. Him and Simpson were absolutely fantastic last night. The whole back 5 were. To be honest the only one slightly below par was Cabaye. And he still did ok and put the graft in, its just his passing radar was a bit sloppy.

I'd still pick Cheik on the basis that he has been instrumental for us over 2 seasons, and has earnt his stripes already this term after a shaky start. There is definetly a case though for Danny G to be saying to Pardew that he should be in, and Cheik will have to wait his turn. Tough call to make.

Looked like he had a black eye yesterday as well. Don't know how he got it though!

Very tough call, he might consider a formation change to accommodate all 3 players. Unlikely of course, as 4-4-2 is serving us very well and we arent used to different systems.

If he can't then he's got problems! <cheers>...

All opposition attackers manage to get past Perch so I don't see Santon having a problem!

Judging by his hair, maybe he has taken to hillbilly life and committed fully to it. You can't call yourself a hillbilly till you've had a needless bar fight with your cousin.

Well if we are going to bring Tiote back, it would have to be for Cabaye. Guthrie was outstanding last night. I'm a big fan of his and always have been.

I find this rather strange. Cabaye plays insanely well all season, has one poor game and gets dropped from our usual starting 11 for Guthrie who has had only a few games? I fully agree on Guthrie by the way, he was great last night and I'm a fan of his too - but I'm a much bigger fan of Cabaye because he has been phenomenal for us all season with the exception of last night. Guthrie should at very least be on the bench for us every week, but I just don't think we've seen any reason to drop either Tiote or Cabaye because they have been one of our best units together on the pitch this season.

Hmm i don't mean it saying 'We should drop Cabaye' as such.

But Guthrie has earnt his place in the starting 11 now and it would be unfair to drop him. Same as Best and Raylor. But if we were going to bring back Tiote for this weekend, i'd say leave Cabaye out, he looks in need of a rest anyway.

True, he did seem a bit tired last night which would be a side effect of his ridiculous amount of ground coverage over the space of a full Extra Time cup match haha. Would certainly be interesting to see how Guthrie-Tiote worked together, but if fit and alert I'd always prefer Cabaye.

I'd put Tiote straight back in there when we can, we're not yet in a position to start players like Guthrie, yes he impressed, but we have to play our best players.

I was never depressed it was just the way people read my posts while looking at eeyore so I changed it. By the way I was saying we'd destroy Stoke all day yesterday.

I've personally rated Guthrie since we bought him back in 08' and even when he was partnered with a ageing Nicky Butt back in 08-09(relegation season :/) he looked decent. <ok>

More than capable cover IMO. Good 3rd choice to have. He's passing range is excellent, good work-rate(on yesterday's evidence), decent tackler(He's no Tiote though), very good vision and technically is quite astute. <ok>
