I forgot all about this! I mentioned it last night on twitter but wasnt able to get on not606 to bring it up until today and I only just remembered it.
In the game yesterday during the 2nd half, FGR just won a goal kick and the ball was right by Danny Coles, who decided to kick the ball away from his own keeper to waste time. This made our crowd shout in anger at him and the ref made the right decision to show him a yellow card. Our crowd then cheered the ref for actually getting something right. Coles however decided to put his hand up to his face pretending to rub his cheek but instead of rubbing his cheek, he used his middle finger aiming it as us fans in the blackthorn end, giving us the bird.
I wasnt impressed. I dont care if he got abuse before the incident, he should be professional and ignore the abuse like a lot of footballers do. Remember, this is the player (when playing for us) who offered to meet our fans in the car park for a fight after he received some criticism on the OS forum. This is the player (when playing for Exeter) abused a fan on twitter which made his club take his captaincy away and put him on the transfer list. He obviously loses his cool quickly!
Of course, some of our fans in the blackthorn end who also seen this from Coles were also not impressed and I thought there was going to be an issue and maybe someone attempt to get on the pitch. Thats all that our club needed. Imagine if someone did that - while we are still under investigation over the racism by the FA and the FA wouldnt have forgotten the pitch invasion at Wycombe which Wycombe made a complaint about and of course dont forget the pitch invasion after our relegation against Mansfield! Oh and the punch on a Braintree player earlier in this season. The last thing our club needs is more crowd trouble and Coles's middle finger incited fans which could have caused more issues for us.
I know its something of nothing but a footballer shouldnt have reacted this way and thankfully it didnt draw crowd trouble which if more people witnessed it, it may have done.
