This - it's very apparent that we are cack at scouting players. It's seriously annoying that we should be competing with these clubs signing the mentioned players but we don't get a look in because we are so late to the party. At this moment of we could get him I would take sturridge. If he's fit he is a very good finisher, good at making his own chances and doesn't rely on service (some might say selfish) which is just as well because no one else will be making any for him.
Be interesting to see what happens with him. If he wants to go to the WC, he needs to move, but if Ings goes on loan which is what is being talked about, then don't see Klopp letting Studge go as well unless we got a bid of say £20m plus. He's so frustrating because when on form, he was a brilliant top drawer CF, but all those injuries cost him that bit of pace and now he's a completely different striker that looks void of any confidence and can't cope with the physical demands that Klopp puts on him. Get 38 games out of him and he'll score you 15-20 goals no doubt.
In his last 4 seasons he's played 55 league games and scored 17 goals, i.e. an average of him playing 14 games per season and getting 4 goals a season. That's what we'd be getting. He's simply one of those players who body isn't tough enough to play consistently and is always going to pick up injuries, same with Kieron Dyer on the rare occasions when he played; amazing talent and people would always be "wow how good could Newcastle be this season if they can keep Dyer fit", but it never happened cos the chances of him staying fit were always zero. Anyone who pays serious money for Sturridge is stupid imo, he's an injury waiting to happen. Is it really all down to Klopp's training methods? he had countless injuries before then, he's played in the Prem for 11 seasons, and played an average of 9 games per season.
A lot of those appearences will be sub appearences under Klopp so hard to judge stats wise in terms of goals per game. Injuries weren’t caused by Klopp, always been there just Studge isn’t a Klopp type player now especially since his injuries as he wants Work rate non stop - just look at Firm. Studge isn’t that player anyway but his body can’t cope with that type of football. Hell fit in at some team and when fit will score goals but you have to build a midfield around him and set up the right way. anyone buying him is taking a bit risk.
Remember reading ages ago that Sturridge wasn't physically unfit as such but that it was more of a mental thing where he wouldn't play unless he was 100% fit whereas other players would in the same condition.
Sturridge isn't going to come, he will have better options and we can't afford him sat on the injury table. I Can't really knock the new scouting system before its first window without either the leadership of Monsieur Carr or the sheer twattery of Charnley. When you have a window that started with you in France but ended with you in Albert's Chip Shop, and only enough for scraps, you're guna do ****. Id like to think we're not linked with Ings and sturridge again though, itll be a waste of a window when Charnley wont pay the extra mill on either's loan fee 3 weeks in.
Never understand our approach to transfer windows. It's like Charnley doesn't realise he can work beforehand, feels like he starts around the 2nd Jan, then we end up chasing shadows most of the time. You can imagine there's a lot of builder-style teeth sucking goes on when fees are mentioned.
Just like the conversation with Rafa on deadline day; "we're going to make a pathetic attempt at signing an LB, only to make a spot-on job of getting rid of one". Which is, to be fair, is the Sports Direct model in essence. If there was no money though and you ****ing knew it, why would you sit on this information until then?! I want to believe it's Ashley but Charns takes plenty blame for being the upper-echelon Pardew
