Corr! the stench of hypocrisy hangs over this thread. Sturridge wants to play for England and hopefully appear in at least one World Cup. Any player would probably see the issue the same way. Rodger's sole responsibility is to manage the best interests of Liverpool Football Club. Both of the stances are understandable. However, in the circumstances they conflict. I believe you can look at it in 2 ways (in best BBC tradition - other options are available). Sturridge is paid by Liverpool to be available for selection irrespective of any extra-club activities. Therefore, knowingly to risk that availability by playing for England is both selfish and unprofessional. The other is to accept that both (Sturridge and Rodgers) are stating their relative positions and that after that there is only media hype. I truly believe that the second option is the one closer to the truth. However, my personal stance has always been club before country. Therefore any LFC player should only be available to their national side when the risk of injury is reduced to a manageable level. Sturridge I feel raised that level selfishly considering that he played 90 mins. in a FRIENDLY
In theory yes, but he only has 9 caps so in his head he won't be thinking this way. EDIT: I also think that maybe he was trying too hard to 'make up' for the **** he got when he was unavailable the last time. Kind of trying to say he is committed.
I suppose, being a friendly though I really think the England staff themselves should have used him more sparingly.
Performances at club level make him the best striker option but he's not really done it for England yet. I think (but don't agree) that Welbeck is first pick in Woy's head.
I don't agree, but I think that would be Woy thinks. Studge hasn't performed for England like he has for us.
