Projection on your part. I judge things on their merits not from a set of beliefs and I don’t get upset by football matters. I just enjoy watching football whatever the outcome.
Purchased for £21 mill valued at 4 billion today…well done Levy…we can see how that happened 25 years of reign…that’s between 75 and 100 tournaments we have entered under his watch and won 2 disgusting return for THFC Looking forward to the new mentality driving us forward Knowing our luck the new person in the hot seat is probably Montgomery Burns from the Simpsons the tight bastard COYS Spurlock
What's most telling is that the 'party line' seems to be that he didn't walk, he was forced out by the Lewis children due to perceived failings. Failings many on here have long been totally in denial of.
Levy has gone purely on the basis the Lewis family wants more success on the pitch. I’m certainly interested to see how they intend to do this but I suspect this could turn ugly! Perhaps I’m cynical but I’m happy to be proven wrong. I just hope steps taken to improve our success do not affect the good standing the club finds itself in under Levy’s stewardship.
Levy leaving is only half the story so far and the bunting is on hold need to know what, who and how next before I can really start looking forward to our development as a club on the pitch The transfer window had Levy’s procrastination tactics all over it, yet unlike Levy we purchased first teamers instead of the usual talent which will be ready in 5 years time etc etc…so I’m not sure what to take from it…who was in charge of Levy’s last window? so as happy as I am…right now I’m not celebrating too much till we figure out the dynamics of the next people in charge for our club
He was never going to walk. Levy's inability to apply the lessons of failure are THE signature of his last decade in charge. His increasingly inappropriate self belief never waivered to any discernible/useful degree. All dictators surround themselves with sycophants and do away with those who oppose them. Daniel was too secure in his unfettered control of the club and, like all dictators, they have to be removed, as they're not volunteering to give up all that power. Finally, the Lewis family have acted on what's been apparent to me for nearly a decade... "His time's up. We need a new approach." Onwards!!
Whilst I totally agree that we could / should be winning more often, it is a fact that comparing the last 25 years with the 25 immediately preceding we reached the same number of cup finals in both periods 7, suggesting that the problem has been as much on the field of play as off of it. I have made the point on here before that back in the 80s when we were considered a cup team by those in the media it was suggested that winning cups was relatively easy (you only need to win 6 matches), and the good teams were those challenging for league titles and being consistent in the league. Whilst we have only really being close to challenging for the league twice (maybe 3 times) under Levy, I don't really recall us being regarded as serious challengers at any time in my lifetime before that (1986-87 Under Pleat maybe). We have definitely been more consistent in terms of top 6 finishes and the associated European qualification that any time in the clubs history. It may also be interesting that in the last 20 years our 2 lowest league finishes coincided with the seasons that we actually won trophies!
if that’s true, as well as the comments that the Lewis family have already been making about wanting success, that’s quite something to come out with at this stage, and will command a level of expectation from the fans from the outset. If they don’t put their money where their mouth is, we’ll essentially have another “COYS, Daniel” sound bite, but from different people.
Obviously to drag people like me who go away during "international break" , back online (I do not approve) . Seriously though, what odds will I be given that Uncle Joe meets his maker within 12 months,
All we have seen so far is the withdrawal of Joe Lewis in favour of the younger members of his family. I would assume they are replacing Joe's man (Levy) with their own people. It's worth remembering that they have presumably inherited their empire rather than built it. We can expect change in the club but what and how sustainable it will be, remains to be seen.
< never let the facts get in the way of a good story > "Whilst we have only really being close to challenging for the league twice (maybe 3 times) under Levy, I don't really recall us being regarded as serious challengers at any time in my lifetime before that (1986-87 Under Pleat maybe)." 1981-82 (you lived to see hacks talk about Spurs and the quadruple) . 1984-85. "It may also be interesting that in the last 20 years our 2 lowest league finishes coincided with the seasons that we actually won trophies!" Let's have a look, shall we ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Tottenham_Hotspur_F.C._seasons Since 1991 all Spurs trophy wins have coincided with league table bottom half finishes (with three data items hardly statistically significant eh) .
If by "their money" you mean their own personal wealth, AFAIK they are not allowed to inject a single penny into anything that pays the club transfer/wage fee bills. Any significant contributions by them to cut the new WHL debt balance of course will be gratefully received.
Could it be that, this was the final straw for the Lewis family? The appointment of Venkatesham pointed at a future where COYS Daniel's power was, at the very least, diminished. That could have been limited to solely football matters, allowing Daniel to retain a significant role elsewhere in the empire. However, he continued to have hands on involvement/control of negotiations in individual transfers during the summer transfer window, with all the trauma and friustrations that we know too well. He was NEVER going to restrict his involvement/meddling to a limited sphere of the club's activities. It's why, some years ago, I gave up proposing it as a potential resolution to his continued sporting failures. For far too long, he'd been all powerful, with no ostensible limits or control. Being fenced in, after all that time, was never going to work...and so it seems to have proved. He had to go!
Also seems to be dodging the obvious issue that, if they wanted more success, why didn't Joe Lewis loosen the purse strings a little? Levy had the club operating within the parameters that Lewis set, something which Shiv and Conner are giving the impression that they were unaware of I trust when our January spending doesn't match Chelsea's the Lunatic Fringe will be on their case then...?
This is a valid question tbh something many have suggested over the years A bit nervous as to what and who comes next but Danny boy had to go…his methods had its limits his dynamics have had its time with us We don’t have to be like Chelsea but we could definitely be better than Levy’s vision of football success.
BBC: It is bombshell news and news that has caught the industry on the hop. But, if you work in the realms of London football in terms of journalism and reporting - many of us would have heard soundings to this effect over the course of the summer. Having spoken to various people involved in the decision, the Lewis family who own the Tavistock Group who effectively own Tottenham have decided that they want a greater focus on sporting success. So take from that what you will. They say that element is clear. I wouldn't backtrack on anyone saying it was probably not Daniel Levy's decision. The other element to that is there is also a feeling at the Tavistock Group that the success on the pitch has not been consistent enough and I have been told that element is part of the decision for Daniel to step down. The other interesting element of this that isn't in the statement is that this happens with immediate effect so read into that what you will. Levy's family own 30% of ENIC who are the majority shareholders of Tottenham. But, my understanding is that he will cease to have any direct involvement with the club with him stepping down as Executive Chairman but the shareholding structure between ENIC and Tavistock does not change. But, all out indications are that Levy will cease to have any control of the club. Also, from what I understand, this is not necessarily a decision taken by Joe Lewis himself. I think it's a decision taken by younger generations of the club. So, Vivian and Charlie, who are Joe's children, are involved in the decision and Joe's grandson in-law Nick Beucher is also involved.
just for clarity RDBD, I didn’t mean their literal money. Just the saying. Poor choice of words in this case “Prove it” may have been better.
The last time I recall Lewis helping out was with the £150m cash injection during Conte's reign, though it was telling that we didn't seem to have anything similar during Poch's time. Even an injection of £50m at the right time would have made the difference Which was really the issue: Levy had to work within those limits and that was often playing Jenga, hence the first order of business under Poch was getting some high wage/low end product players such as Holtby and Paulinho off the books. Add to that how, sometimes, the limits were foist upon him, such as Lewis' assets taking a dive as he had a chunk of change tied up in Bear Stearns when the 2008 financial crisis hit Of course, if the Lewis family trust suddenly find a nest egg that Levy was never given, that'll make them look pretty ****ty
