To be fair he's probably spent more time on the treatment table or bench than on the pitch since leaving Liverpool so I don't think they'll be missing him too much. I always thought people got carried away a bit with him, he looked decent enough and did some good things, but I was never massively confident with him at the back to be honest.

As for Butterfield, I work with a Barnsley fan (a southerner from Kent with no ties to Yorkshire at all bizarrely enough) who can't say enough good things about him, reckons he's absolutely brilliant and even went as far as to say he's "the new gazza". I think he might have been over egging it a bit, but I have read that description before. I personally am really looking forward to seeing what he can do and that's one of the reasons I'm not interested in Pacheco <ok>

Very similar feedback from a Barnsley supporting friend of mine. He was gutted when Butterfield left, and really rates him as a big star of the future.
 
the new gazza, like the sound of that (on the pitch elements only!)

butterfield is one for the future for sure, although i hope we can see some good performances from him this season in the Premier League
 
I feel that Pacheco would be an improvement on the squad. All our players have managed the step up from Championship to Premiership so why can't Pacheco? He has the right attitude for Norwich and would be an improvement on a play like C Martin.

Also, how a player does depends on the team. Pacheco gets on well with the Norwich players and appears to love the club.

But simply being better than Chris Martin isn't a reason to sign him. Martin is never, ever going to get near the first team this year so all Pacheco would do would be to push him even further down the pecking order without actually making an impression on the first team himself either in my opinion. We need to be improving on the quality of our first team players rather than strengthening our reserves if you ask me, and I personally can't see Pacheco even making the bench that often if everyone is fit and available.
 
My point being he is better than C Martin, therefore an improvement on the squad! By being an improvement on C Martin it would be strengthening the squad and C Martin can be sold.

I feel he would be good enough for us in the Premier League anyway, to start in the first XI.

Seriously??? I'm afraid I don't, and I can't possibly see how you can make that judgement - that being that he's a better option that Wes, Jacob and Jonny who all play in a similar role - based on a handful of games a couple of years ago at a lower standard. Being a nice guy and saying nice things about us on Twitter doesn't even come into it, however I feel they do seem to have clouded some people's judgement - not to mention the fact he's got a Spanish name, that old chestnut that I LOVE ;)

Regarding Chrissy Martin, you don't seem to get my point. Martin may have a squad number, but he's never ever going to get into the first 18 on a match day this season so improving on that kind of player isn't improving the actual first team squad, especially when we already have better players than him who play in his position already in our squad (see above paragraph for the three names) <ok>
 
I didn't say first team squad, I said squad. An improvement on anyone contracted to Norwich is an improvement on the squad. So to get someone better than C Martin is an improvement in the squad. I never said they couldn't therefore be an improvement on the better players in our squad either!

For example bringing in Rhodes, potentially a better play than C Martin, would be an improvement on the squad even though he may not be one of our best players.

You appear to think that I'm comparing Pacheco to a player that would be one of the best players in the squad, therefore a first team player, which I'm not.

But I'm afraid I don't see the point of bringing someone in if they're not going to improve the first team playing squad, which in my opinion Pacheco wouldn't - am I missing something here or what? Your example of Rhodes would also be better than Morison and Jackson as well as Martin, and they are two players currently part of the playing squad so that kind of player would be attractive to me (not Rhodes himself of course, that's been done to death, I'm just utilising your example).

We've already got enough mascots in Splat the Cat and Captain Canary, we don't need another one if you ask me <ok>
 
For me it would be about the extent to which he improves the squad and yes he would improve the squad. The degree of improvement he would make is a matter of opinion and my expectation is that it would add something to the squad, and given the right circumstances could be very influential. However, this seems somewhat of a gamble. My preference would be to bring in players in Jnauary who are automatically going to be challenging for a first team place - Pacheco would not be doing that this season.
 
I'm with Munky and longsight - there's no place for sentiment in the Premier League. Yes he did well for us on loan, but that was the best part of two years ago, and our squad has changed quite a bit since then. We need improvements to the match day squad rather than the squad who might play in a cup game or U21 games. i don't think he would be any better than the options we have for attacking midfielders already.

Pacheco was at best average.Jackson.Howson etc are far
better equipped to do a job.

No point in wasting money on another average player
 
Liked Dani when he was with us and think that he would offer something to the squad and improve it. However I think that the priority lies elsewhere. We have plenty of attacking midfielders to cover for Wes or provide different options. That said if it was just a striaght swap for Martin then I would take him assuming that the differential in wages is not too significant as I think he could develop into a decent player.

I don't see us spending big in January unless CH deceides to go for an out and out striker as I think that most other positions have decent cover already in place.
