It happened in the tunnel according to Newcastle fans. The original pitch side incident was closed having been dealt with by the ref at the time.
I really find it difficult to get my head around what kind of complete moron would get up from the bench to put the boot into one of the opposing coaches in that situation (and if it's true it was in the tunnel after the whistle, when he should have had time to calm down, that's even worse). Especially if you're a player with a big reputation, big salary and big transfer fee to live up to, and you're struggling to even get into the team on a regular basis. Now he's probably going to be suspended during a period when we need as many players available as possible. I don't care how good you think you are, there is absolutely no excuse for that.
Which makes me even more surprised we bought him. I know Pochettino was his mentor but I cannot see Cortese letting him continue in this way. If it has happened once it could easily happen again :s.
Yes. It might be in the club's interest to leave him out and have that count as "time served" though.
The Club has it's own internal disciplinary procedures, which rarely become public, but I suspect Oz will be suffering from a mysterious injury for a few weeks!
I'm deeply annoyed if it was done in cold blood. I'd assumed it was in the heat of the scrap on the touchline and was ready to forgive - people's minds switch off once a melee has started. It's not like we need more people out of the squad. Let's hope it's a mild ban. Vin
Do we know if he was provoked? Or are people just jumping to conclusions and saying he did it randomly after the moment have happened. Yes he shouldn't have done it, but we don't know why he did it.
**** me the whiter than white brigade are out I see. Some people are so self righteous and perfect I have to look at myself in the mirror and ask why I can't be so perfect too. It's like some people have been desperate for him to explode so they can smugly say, "I told you so" in a pathetic whiney voice. Jeez, makes me sick some times. Any of you ever had adrenalin pumping through your veins before?
Very true, I might have missed something, but he is not involved in the TV evidence i have seen. On the Solent/Saints player commentary Blackmore mentions his name in the initial melee before the pictures catch up, but he gets players names wrong in commentary so often that it's hardly conclusive evidence. Newcastle fans on the internet saying it occurred in the tunnel is not very reliable either and i'm surprised Pardew played it down so much in the post match interviews if it was a serious wrong doing on our part. Now there must be good evidence for a charge to be made, but think people should wait to hear what that is from official sources before the public sentencing
I think that's a good point. What exactly is the evidence against him? Nothing was shown on TV and it's hard to believe something picked up by the cameras wouldn't have been shown and discussed at length.
A few people mentioned that Dani was involved right from the beginning. As said, we saw no evidence, so thought it was just guff. There will be witnesses amongst the crowd in the melee and there will be camera evidence (one way or the other). Cameras cover the whole area, but the tv director switches between shots as he/she chooses. The dugout will undoubtedly have cameras on it full time, so that they have the managers' reactions to a goal/foul etc at all times. Unless absolutely untrue, Dani would be best to put his hand up, apologise and get minimum punishment.
Amazing how people are speculating so much on this issue. The FA have the evidence, and we don't. I don't think we are in a position to condemn or support Dani. Just let events unfold is what I say.
