So have Blackburn,Norwich,Sunderland,Fulham,Villa,Newcastle........Embarassing!!!!!!!! Wolves have scored the same as us And our management team dont think we need any attacking/creative reinforcements or havnt done a good enough job to get any Rafa used to get called negative, but we scored 110 goals in a season in all comps about 4 yrs ago
When Rafa first arrived at Liverpool he started by tightening things up at the back and creating a solid, reliable platform from which we could build our attacking flair - to the point we scored over 100 goals in a season. Still we were lambasted for being 'defensive' and 'conservative'. I'd have real problems if we weren't scoring but were throwing the kitchen sink at them and conceding boatloads. We're not doing that, so there is room for improvement. Despite our 'defensive' nature we're creating a good number of chances damned near every game. Its only a matter of a few inches making the difference between our draws and our wins.
Well said Kenny and the right decision too. Why spend money in January on the hope that a new buy would 'hit the ground running'? Now is the time to show some faith. Our attack has created more goalscoring opportunities more consistently than any other side. How many times have we hit the woodwork? How many times has the opposition goalie saved them? Now the luck appears to be turning in our direction. We have a Wembley appearance, we are progressing in the FA Cup, and the Suarez ban has not cost us as many points as we would have predicted. Across Europe clubs are finding that the economic realities really do affect them. It is just childish to continue thinking about lashing out 6 figure sums on little more than a hope and a prayer - it's time to grow up. We have what we have and it is up to KK and SC and the players to prove that they can cope.
I wonder just how close to the threshold of the FFP we must therefore be - is it wage demands which are scuppering preliminary approaches? We're short (so it appears) of players able to finish, but not short of creatives making chances...
We have only scored 1 point in the 3 league games Suarez has been banned in the league and scored 1 goal. We have done well in cup games with out Suarez but horribly in the league without him.
FFP rules arnt in existance yet, we should be making of the time before they come in And TBH i aint convinced they are gonna come in , Citeh have appeared to have got away with the Etihad deal, Chelsea will be gettin Shirt sponsored by some Russian oil company to the tune of £1 billion , and FIFA an UEFA wont do a thing.Citeh by rights should be banned from the CL next year with the dodgy Etihad deal
I was just going to right pretty much exactly that St thanks for saving me a job. Basically I can't think of many great teams over the years who haven't started from having a solid base. Sometimes having a player like Lucas get injured doesn't just hurt the protection of the back 4 it also means other midfielders, wingers etc drop a little further back just to make up for what you lose when one of your better players isn't available. Look we'd all like to see an influx of top class players every transfer window but it's just not realistic. I'd be the first to celebrate if someone like Cavanni turned up at Anfield tomorrow but I resigned myself after the first week of Jan that we were probably not doing any big deals. Lets be honest most of us knew early on last year that Suarez was arriving and that deal still took a fortnight to sort...and the panic buy with Carroll hasn't exactly been a roaring success so I'm not sure I'd be so keen to see us doing exactly the same thing again a year later. I understand the Catch 22 scenario of not pushing for the champions league now while we have a good chance means come the summer (if we finish outside top 4) we can't attract the big name players...but I was delighted with the Suarez capture last year because I knew he WASN'T just coming for European football he was happy to come and try to push us up to that level. No top 4 isn't a disaster it just means those behind the scenes will have to work a bit harder to identify targets who can improve our (now very solid) squad.
Yeah, I agree. It wasn't even subtle or anything. You can guarantee if FFP wasn't in the pipeline, that deal wouldn't exist. I thought they were looking into it though. Something to do with the deal not representing the market value (i.e what other potential sponsors would be willing to offer.) If bidders were offering say £100m over 4 years, it certainly seems a bit odd for someone else to come in and say 'oh, well we'll give you £400m'! Fifa should veto the deal if they have any sense. Otherwise look out for Malaga and PSG doing similar deals.
But look at what the situation could have been in terms of league position if our rivals had taken their opportunities. Luck appears now to be running with us so the chances that went begging in the 1st half of the season may now be more likely to turn into goals
I personally think this is a very important window we've let slip by. Had we been comfortably in the top 4, like where Spurs are now, maybe then it'd be sensible to stay out of the market and not tamper with a good thing. But since we're not there, but are still close, that should be the signal to bring in one or two fresh faces. We could persuade targets we're still very much looking a CL qualification, and so the quality would still be there to be got at. And even so, the quality is there regardless, which is strange for January. I'd have thought these sentiments would have been the club's at the beginning of the season, but evidently not. January should be a time to evaluate and act accordingly.
Leandro Damaioo about to sign for PSG,another world class AVAILABLE striker goes somewhere else Also Mick McCarthy said in his presser today that Kenny wanted to play 2moros game on Wednesday.Apparently McCarthy said Kenny said he had transfer plans, and wanted to play the game a day later due to that, despite Kenny saying there where gonna be no ins or outs in his conferenece earlier today Is Kenny up to something!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kenny is a sly old dog, all this denial is just smoke screen and mirrors, am expecting Tevez and Cavani!
I agree that is it disappointing that we are not bringing anyone in this window, but is it really Kenny's choice? The owners have spent £100M on players for him, and so far it hasn't paid off too well. So do the owners "waste" more money on this manager, or make him live or die on his ability to deliver top 4 with what many of us felt was a bunch of good purchases? If Kenny fails, it maybe bye bye Kop Legend, and hello someone else (Rafa again?) who can then have a slice of the pie. Well that's me done playing devils advocate, personally, I think we've played better this week, and some of that maybe down to the team focusing on the fact that is going to be down to them to work their way out of it, there will be no magic bullet, each and every one of the existing player will have to stand up and be counted, and I saw that particularly with Andy Carroll. I just hope he doesn't get bored of making an effort and keeps this up. And did anyone see that one decent ball from Downing? It had pace, it was in the right area! OK, it still went to a manc player first, but it's a step in the right direction. Now personally, I fail to see how players that get paid so much money dare to suffer from lack of confidence. If someone was paying me £80,000 a week, I'd have the biggest head in the world, but it appears that some of these well paid superstars, can still feel like crap, so maybe when we get our racist number 7 back next week (I'm kidding!) the team might pep up a bit, and they can overcome truly awful chavski and Arse-nil, and if we are very lucky, other teams will realise that the scum are absolute rubbish and hand out a few beatings to them (reputation, my arse!) Finally, can I point out, how I used to be in a minority of 1 or 2 in thinking Lucas was a good player? The rest of you EA sports Football Manager gobshites all would blast him week in week out. Now if only all of you could learn from your mistakes and give the current crop of mis-firing losers some support, they too will come good. P.S. I still don't understand why Kenny keeps playing Johnston over Kelly, I mean, Really???
