Hasn't made the most of the backing by Saeed Manana - even funnier than calling him tosh- name a good horse he has had in recent years - exactly none. Give him a good horse and he would know exactly what to do with it. They don't have a similar team at all John Dunlop has much better horses
The fact is Nass you can't knock the major wins he has had throughout his career - Barry Hills has only had 4 or 5 more when you calculate all the major honours. Are you going to tell me you could have done more than Hills - didn't think so
Nideeb for one. Hattan, Yahrab, Jira, Mahadee, Al Muheer, Misheer. Any of those could have turned into really good horses but never got to the top table. Last good horse he trained to its potential was Hibaayeb and they sold that to Godolphin and it went on to improve after a slow start with the boys in blue.
RV but its not about what they have done in the past, you have to go on what they are doing in the last five seasons. Clive Brittain has gone massively backwards in his training whilst the likes of John Dunlop and Hills have both maintained solid yards which produce the goods.
Yahrab - got his rating from racing against decent horses without looking to get to the top at all way short no matter who he was trained by a bit like Georgebernardshaw when with O'Brien. If the horses had potential to be top class he would have got it out of them that is my point.
You see Nass I agree with that totally but the bloke is getting on he is nearly 75 years of age. He just loves the sport so much and I think it is very unfair to call him a tosh trainer. Nice debate though . I still don't feel Clive gets as many nice horses as the likes of Dunlop and Hills and that is no fault of his own, the ones you have mentioned he still did well to win listed and group races with. To say he didn't train them to full potential is nothing more than nonsense imo. It is like saying Aidan O'Brien should have won a group 1 with Georgebernardshaw
CB also runs his horses in races that they have no chance in, he doesn't place the horses to their best and for me he wastes the horses he has been given. Take that thing that should have beaten Dubawi Gold at Lingfield (Elshabakiya?), instead of getting a win into it and then developing from there he runs it in Group 1s in which it has no hope of winning. That is my major problem, he has so many horses that should be winning races and progressing but instead they are overfaced and turn out to be 0-5 for the season and are ruined.
Yepp that is a very good point I have noticed that also . I don't think they are ruined though and I doubt it is only Clive making those decisions (think the owner has a lot to do with it)
GDC, looking for a good season from them, top half of table would be great! They played well on Sunday as they generally do at home, just need a confidence boosting away game early on.
Sizing: I've backed him to have top half finish and also be top midlands club although Villa will take the beating in that event now with Given in goal! Got Kenwyn Jones on the handicap for top scorer too
RV, problem is we will never know because they hardly ever sell any of the Manana horses, the ones that have been sold in recent years have gone on to at least run up to the same form if not better.
Jones had his problems at home last season which he couldn't shake off the pitch but when in full flow I think he is a fair player who I hope puts over 15 away for us this season. Would be an achievement to top Villa but we can live in hope k:
Cyc, some do - Channon and Hannon have both spoken about targetting different types at the sales last season and that is why the yards are doing well at present
Most of out top trainers select their yearlings, so they tend to live or die by the sword. Just a word as a possible defence of CB. Their might actually be a chance that his horses are not placed by the trainer himself. I knoticed that after Al Zarooni has a nice win, he was asked where the horse was going next. He didn't know. He said that those decissions were left to the owner and his adviser. So it may be that CB is in the same boat.
Hal of a Lover 16:45 Muss, dissapointing last time but im told will be better today, 5/2 and is the fav, i wont be lumping on but will have a shilling or 3 on the nose stay frosty
Hi guys-Footprint was unlucky in Galway a few weeks ago and the yard fancy this to win at 5.30 at sligo at the shorter trip.4/1 looks a decent price so will be having a score win bet and is my nap of the day.
