1.30 Yarmouth - COMMEND WIN 8/1 - CRITICAL POINT E.W 50-1 A good maiden on paper that should produce a few above average sorts. Looking at some of the newcomers COMMEND looks good value for the win at 8/1, he is a derby entrant. Last time I checked the stats when Moore and Stoute team up at Yarmouth they had a very decent strike rate. I have been looking on the Highclere site and they have had regular updates for this colt, they describe him as beautiful but he has been immature and has also had a few niggling problems preventing him from making his debut earlier. They seem happy with him so I will take a little punt today. Another that interests me in the race is CRITICAL POINT. He will probably be more of a handicap project for next year but I always respect Sir Mark Prescotts runners when he pitches them in to decent races first time up.This one is available at around 50/1 so I have had a small E.W BET
Promise by Commend and Invisible Hunter neither looked like winning at any point mind so not sure why 8/1 in to 4/1 for Commend nice E.W Cats on Gosdens
2.10 Chepstow PROSPECT WELLS 11/4 (Stan James) The Lavelle horse is obviously well thought of (as Stick says) to be leading the market with several firms however Prospect Wells is going to take some stopping this afternoon and the 11/4 on offer is just way too big in my honest opinion. He has went well fresh in the past and this is a 108 animal when at his best on the flat (Group 2 winner). I don't feel Howard Johnson got the best out him last season and I think we may well see a different horse now in the care of Paul Nicholls . The 11/4 on offer is hard to ignore and for that reason he is a bet. 2.40 Chepstow - CHRISTOPHER WREN 4/1 (BOG) Grandioso is another ex Howard Johnson horse making his debut for Paul Nicholls this afternoon and looks an interesting recruit to hurdles. Having hacked up on debut in a Mussleburgh bumper he shaped well when midfield in the Aintree champion bumper. He should go close today but I feel Christoper Wren offers more value. This 4yo was still progressing rapidly on the flat with John Best but has since been purchased by JP McManus and now goes hurdling for new trainer Nick Gifford. His last run of the flat campaign came in the Melrose handicap at York in which he finished 3rd beaten just over 3 lengths trying to concede 2lbs to the winner Mount Athos and 3lbs to the runner up Tactician. That is rock solid form as Mount Athos has went on to achieve a rating of 102 (probably to be raised after finishing an excellent 4th in the Cesarewitch) whilst Tactician has a OR of 108. The 4th horse that day was Zuider Zee who is rated 93. We can see by this performance Christopher Wren has plenty of talent and is transfering his ability to hurdles he has to be a leading player today and could win some very good races this season 3.40 Chepstow - RED HARBOUR 9/2 This horse hasn't looked the best in two starts over fences so far, but the fact he has plenty of ability helped him to get off the mark at the second time of asking last time out. He was losing several lengths at some fences but managed to win going away in the end as expected. He will have to be better today but should be getting better with experience. The step up to 3m will suit and if improving on his jumping he will take some stopping today.
Hi all i'm going to put up RED HARBOUR 3.40 Chepstow 9/2, should improve sufficiently to take this, there is no doubt desperately needed that run at Fontwell last time and probably had the 2nd not made a hash of the last he was a beaten horse, that wasnt his form and he'll shape much better for the race. Good luck to all.
No probs Ardent makes me more confident when other people pick the same selections hoping he wins for us
Plenty of promise but looked like he wants 10f. Clearly no Frankel but still a decent horse to look forward to.
RV - could be some decent animals in Wylie colours this season, now that they're not lumbered with hojo
I agree Odddy. One thing I did like them being with Hojo for though is that the price was usually ok. Now with Nicholls value may be gone - saying that Prospect Wells at 11/4 was a cracking bet. This one being hammered as well mate so good luck gone with Christopher Wren though
