Last day of January and racing comes from Lingfield, Catterick, Kempton, Wolverhampton & Dundalk across the water. There are some decent opportunities for a bet on the sand once again in my opinion so wanted to put them up early.

Lingfield
2.00 Evacusafe Lady 10-1
I am interested in this horse because she is being dropped to 6f which is something I hope will bring out the best in her. I hope from stall 1 that the jockey will take the lead and kick early as she will definitely not stop over 6f but could be vulnerable to a speedier type if it is not made a real gallop. I have watched this horse a few times and backed it once before. I cannot say I am really confident but I can say I think it should not be 10-1 and the drop in distance makes her really interesting.

7.00 Mr Red Clubs 11-4
We do not have to go back too far to find this selection running with real credit in much better races and although its a while since he has got his nose in front I am hoping tomorrow in a class 5 will prove the day to be on.

8.00 Lexis Hero 6-4
Won very well last time up and a penalty will not stop him, Jamie could however so buyer beware.
 
Well a whole month has nearly passed in the year 2014- we have some bumpers for jumpers (which is where my selections come from) and tomorrow is of course Transfer Deadline Day and being an arsenal fan wil be another day of promise but not deliver <laugh>

15.30 Kempton- Highfields Dancer- 22/1 ew

Abit of a shot in the dark with this one, will either come off or leave me with egg on my face but Gary has just the one entrant tomorrow and intresting Josh is riding taking off 3lbs. Although Highfield Dancer achevied sweet fa on his debut at Stratford , he hinted at some ability on that run, his dam won on the flat over 1m2 and has a useful half sister these type of races throughout a shock winner or two and feel this maybe one.

17.10 Kempton- Sergeant Reckless- 3/1

Has won lenty of bumpers before including when winning an all-weather bumper over this trip at Lingfield last year before being pitched into the Champion Bumper thereafter. Has been in fantastic form over the hurdles @ 2m this season and is very much the one to beat based on that form
 
Not betting on this jumpers bumper nonsense but Lidar makes a bit of e/w appeal in the 4.05. Top notch bumper form a few years ago.
 
Catterick 14.45 Classic Move is being well tipped but I see Sprinter Sacre's sire, Network, has an interesting one in this by the name of Vice Et Vertu. Classic Move has by far the best form and I suspect will end up clear fav resulting in a decent price for my selection. Although he hasn't run against anything of the class Classic Move has run against he holds entries in 2 Grade 1 races at the Festival so I'm guessing they think something of him at home.

In the 16.25 Oleohneh looks interesting as does Molly Cat in the 14.20 Kempton

In the 14.55 Kempton Spirit Of Shankly looks the day's banker, whilst in the 16.40 Southfield Theatre should win
 
Mark Johnston Looks to have an excellent chance of a quick double at Lingfield with Mbhali 15.10 and Swivel 15.45

Keep To The Beat 19.30 is the only selection at Wolverhampton


Hopefully I will get a few winners. No fancy prices though.

Flat races, not bumpers. Bumpers are to educate horses. These races are to rob punters of their hard earned.

If only it was on turf and over obstacles, that card would be very impressive.
 
Kykate is a confident selection for me at cat -travelling like the winner last time only to be brought down -compo awaits!

My bet today is 3.20 Alderley Rover @ 18/1 EW

Rationale - There are two handicap blots in the race, but both have modest form in the past and I believe at least one of them will bounce. Alderley Rover is the class horse in the race and a return to his penultimate race form would see him beat most if not all of these.

Morning, crew. Hope everyone on board is well. It&#8217;s &#8216;bumpers for jumpers&#8217; day this afternoon then at old Kempers Park and as I enjoy a good bumper for a jumper (is there a better sight in NH racing, incidentally, than seeing a steeplechaser attack a stretch of polytrack?!?) one decided it would be a top notch idea to have a jolly good in depth look at each heat. Here we go then &#8211;

1.50 &#8211; SOUTHFIELD VIC brings a high level of form to the table in that following a decent win and 2nd place in similar events he was then an excellent 5th, behind Red Sherlock, in a Cheltenham Listed bumper. Has to carry a penalty for his Exeter win but looks up to the task.

2.20 &#8211; MOLLY CAT, what a lovely name for a filly by the way, is a daughter of Dylan Thomas who rather like Southfield Vic may be capable of carrying a penalty to victory. There was an awful lot to like about her debut success at Wetherby where the old girl quickened clear to win easily by 10 lengths and a reproduction of that effort should be enough.

2.55 &#8211; SPIRIT OF SHANKLY was a dual bumper winner back in &#8217;12 so this contest should hold no fears for an animal who has gone on to win a couple of hurdle races this term including a decent beating of Urban Hymn who obliged in Grade 2 company at the weekend. Looks the obvious candidate here against some out of form opponents.

3.30 - I would expect this contest to be fought out between the stables of Mr Henderson and Mr Nicholls with preference just for the former&#8217;s SIGN OF A VICTORY. A very easy winner of a Ludlow bumper in November he followed this up with a very respectable debut over hurdles at Newbury. Should have the edge over Saint Roque on the &#8216;level&#8217;.

4.05 &#8211; A big field full of some old faves can go the way of FRENCH OPERA. Although now an 11YO this one shows no signs of losing his form or his speed as displayed last time, last month, under a welter burden over 17 furlongs at Cheltenham. This is quite a different scenario today, of course, but I can&#8217;t see the old boy being inconvienced that much. Plus, his class should see him through.

4.40 &#8211; It&#8217;s fantastic to see the return of Shakalakaboomboom, after almost 2 years off, but I feel that SOUTHFIELD THEATRE (NAP) may be too good for him here. I really like this horse who last time out qualified for Cheltenham&#8217;s &#8216;Pertemps Final&#8217;. He will have a leading chance in that heat later in the campaign but expect him to oblige here first.

5.10 &#8211; BENZANO was very useful on the Flat for old Andy Balding winning 3 times and being perched as highly as 93. Cost current connections 60,000 guineas in October and ran fairly well to finish 3rd first time up for them in a Catterick maiden hurdle last month. Back on the level he should be too good today.

5.40 &#8211; the &#8216;lucky last&#8217; really does look all about Mr Henderson&#8217;s DAWALAN who has impressed since switching to hurdles for the forum&#8217;s favourite. He&#8217;s won 2 out of 3 and subsequently now takes high rank in the &#8216;Triumph&#8217; market. Meanwhile, was formerly an above average maiden across the water for old boy Alain Du Royre-Dupre. This race is Dawalan&#8217;s &#8216;prep&#8217; for the 4YO championship event and I can see him heading to Cheltenham with a &#8216;1&#8217; next to his name.

Must be my time of the month too (thought I'd finished with those years ago), but I do agree, a full card of bumper races on the Polytrack is a load of balls. It's just to give the bookies a bit more petty cash for their vacations in Barbados, or where ever.

I should add, that if it is supposed to be the 'time of the month' for some of us, then the good Sir Barney must be 'on heat'??
