15:25 Hamilton - Free Zone (Bryan Smart's charge looks to have decent chance in this sprint. Distance winner and handles the going. 3/1 with Stan James, and 11/4 freely available at time of writing. Will have an interest in this one).
My preference in the 1000 Guineas is for The Fugue 22/1 ew. This largely stems from my inabilty to find anything else but I think this one is beautifully bred, a late type who has probably wintered well and will get the trip and a bit further (I think the race is running slightly longer than a mile). John Gosden isn't wasting his time I don't think - Fencing outran his odds yesterday to finish 6th - and I think the Fugue, with Buick on board, can outrun her odds and finish in the money.
Today at Newmarket I think the unexposed Anatolian can take the spoils and im willing to forgive Ithoughtitwasover last run and have a play e/w, whereas I am going to go against Timepiece due to her record first time out, the trip is too short for Izzi Top and im going to give Law Of The Range a chance in the Dahlia Stakes. I cant go against Maybe whom I've heard top things for but similarily the price is short so i'm going to have a small play on Moonstone Magic. I've always been a massive fan of Alben Star and that won't change 10/1 is a price im very interested in. At Sailsbury having singles and big double on Royal Peculiar & Tassel Good Luck
Other bets today. Off to watch the toon now - racing on record for after match GL all KHALWAH 2.35 N JARROW 3.50 N E.W SHUJA 4.00 H (NAP) ROYAL PECULIAR 2.20 S LORD NANDI 4.10 S E.W APOSTLE 4.45 S
Maybe was the best juvenile horse in Europe last year for me. If she's trained on she'll win but at 6/4 I don't need to have a bet. Passing on everything else also. Off to Old Trafford later where things could be buoyant. Come on the Toon. Over and out.
Having had a 2nd look at the 1000 guineas form, I have come to the conclusion that Lyric Of Light @ 10/1 is the best value bet to take down the favourite, even though I do conceed Maybe is going to be tough to beat, I just don't want to take 6/4
Quite fancy Steve Golling's Local Hero in the opener at Newmarket. A very good juvenile hurdler, he has found open company tougher this season but put in arguably his best performance last time at Ayr when a close 2nd to Raya Star. He is still unexposed on the flat and won his last start on the level on soft ground at Carlisle (albeit 18 months ago). None will be fitter today and I'm hopeful of a bold display.
He doesn't miss too many dinners Oddy! Lunch for me is a packet of Tayto cheese and onion (can only get them here..a definite + from my emmigration!) and an ice cold bottle of the Old Speckled Hen. Heading out later for dinner...if I come round!
