Can you not buy a single edition of the Racing Post online anymore? You certainly could but it keep offering me subscriptions instead . . .
Indeed. I'd like to know his reasoning and what else he says. Not sure I could have Oscars Well. Looks exposed at the top level but I suppose a fast run 2m on quicker ground might see him to better effect. He has just seemed to lack a change of gear this season so suspect he will always look a touch one-paced against the best 2 milers.
........... not exactly his hot race though - he tipped Mille Chief last year More one for the "back to lay" brigade I would think
Cheers oddy , glad I don't particularly fancy that ones chances too much at this stage as his price has probably collapsed now , I always wonder if he plays in the betfair market pre edition and after to have a free bet on his own selections and what the morality of doing so is ??? Can't make my mind up , think I would if in his shoes and he does infact truely fancy his own tips
With the number of large priced winners he gives he can play Betfair all he wants as far as I'm concerned. I will be following him in the festival handicaps for sure
I agree. I think it is a race with no obvious 'Pricewise selection'. Seems a bit desperate to be honest. Couldn't know for sure until I read why. That is often far more interesting/helpful than the tip itself.
His record is remarkable and whether you follow tipsters or not (I don't) you have to give anything he puts up respect. The one that really made me sit up and take note was Hinterland this year. He said after his first win that he wouldn't win a Triumph because he lacked a change of gear. I thought he was barking made and then, exactly as predicted, Hinterland gets made to look decidedly one paced against Baby Mix! That was when I really thought that I should at least take notice of what he says.
Surprised you hold him in such high regard oddy as I don't consider his strikerate that impressive , quite annoyed he tipped up a horse I back on Saturday in ciricon as instead of getting 20/1 I was only able to get 12/1 and I felt no more confident , I hold Hugh Taylor in high regard but don't really follow any of them
You could only pick Oscars Well on his novice form, he has shown very little this season - beaten by The Real Article, Thousand Stars and Unaccompanied
Are the championship races really the kind of race that Segal is likely to do well in? I have him down as a handicap blot reader.
TBH I don't follow him at all, so I don't know what his strike rate is like, I am just amazed how often you hear that a big-race winner was tipped up by pricewise earlier in the day at double the odds. And those festival handicaps are a nightmare where I rarely do well, so anything he picks will be an improvement on my lowly efforts
His strike rate is very good considering the prices he puts them up at. Since Christmas he has had Kauto Star (5/1), Synchronised (20/1), Cicero (16/1), some other yoke at 9/2. He has certainly put up far fewer tips than that lots pays for since then, and that's just off the top of my head.
I think he went something like 12 weeks straight napping a big Saturday winner. Whether you like him or not, whether you follow tips or not, you have to respect his opinion.
