You are entitled to your opinion Shergar. It is immaterial though whether we think he raped her or not. The fact of the matter is that none of us or the Shef Utd fans were in court for every session of the case and as such are not in a position to knowledgeably claim the verdict is incorrect.

At this moment in time the man is guilty of rape. He will have his appeal and may be able to overturn the verdict there. In my opinion it is incredibly I'll advised of the United fans to applauded the shirt number and goal tally of a player who has been convicted of this serious crime. Incredible bad taste. It may also lead to other women not reporting a rape in the future now they know how little value the general public in Sheffield place on this crime. I'm absolutely disgusted to be honest.

On a lighter note I've been arguing with 365 all night to get my Une Artiste bet voided and they've just given me the refund. My bet wasn't as big as Oddy's but still a decent sum so my advice would be to get on the phone and ask for it to be voided as a goodwill gesture.

I can't believe what you're saying here Shergs. So because some don't believe he did it automatically leads to them applauding him? He's a convicted rapist for Christ sake. Have some dignity as human beings and recognise the fact this is a terrible crime to commit. 1 in 100 victims get justice. It is incredibly hard to get a conviction.

Fair enough Quelesprit, but should we expect anything less from football fans. Chelsea and Spurs fans couldn't even observe a minutes silence for Hillsbrough, and that poor lad in Italy.

You're right there. There's something about being in the stands that turns generally good people into reprobates.

I wouldn't say they are good people, they are just the idiots of our society, who are either sick in the head, or who aren't smart enough to realise the seriousness of there actions. If it was down to me I'd go through all the CCTV of the Wembley incident, and ban every single one of the idiots chanting from football grounds for life

"Yorkshire football fans in bad taste chanting shocker"

Surely not..........hmmmmm, remember when Peter Sutcliffe was on the loose.........................

Generally football fans have more respect these days but our society in general can be pretty shocking. Dont tell me you didnt get any bad taste jokes after the tsunami or when celebs like Jimmy Saville and Amy Winehouse died.....!

With regards to Ched Evans, I think he is stupid but can see how a lot of people think he has been hard done by. By all accounts the girl was too drunk to remember anything!
I think the problem with footballers these days is that they see themselves as gods who can do pretty much what they please without fear of any consequence!

It's the old addage of crowds lending anonymity to the individual .................. much like t'internet.

Quel - I would argue that a bunch of nobheads at a Sheff Utd match are nor representative of the general public in Sheffield but I know what you mean <ok>

Just going to go and close down my betting accounts, I'm sick of it and that issue with Une Artiste yesterday has shown me what a waste of time it is. We've had the fridge and washing machine break down this week and there's me chucking good money at a horse that doesn't even fecking run <doh>. So I'm joining the "no bet" lads like Cyc and Ron and will just enjoy the sport for what it is.

Good morning. All sounds like sound commonsense to me. Will not exactly quit as stakes are generally small (last and only win for a while courtesy of STH a day or so ago when I won the grand sum of 90 euro - taking the Wife to the "Indian" today), but will watch for soft-ground Haafhd's later on in season.

(P.S. Yesterday was the hottest April day ever recorded in Munich since people started to put their fingers in the air - damn hot, really, for this part of the world).

28°C forecast for Berlin today Swanny - just going out for a run before it gets too hot. Picnic in the park after that <ok>

Oddy: That sounds great! Easy on the running though. My missus has always been unaffected by climate temps. She used to go for long walks in Bangkok (when I was working in the East) in April when it was 42°C. with a ridiculous humidity count. Had the luxury of a driver in those days and he said he'd never seen a Farang (foreigner) who could tolerate the hot season like that.

No Daily Thread for Sunday's racing, but Snowball (ridden by Daryl Jacob, trained by D. Arbuthnot) is worth an each-way bet in the bumper at Ludlow - his sire is Alderbrook who liked soft going.
