We have more chance of going up than Bournemouth do of staying up.

Anything other than a play off place will be a failure?, prepare for a failure then, because we have very little chance of achieving that. Mid table will be success. Pearson has had to lower the wage bill considerably, has on the whole brought in freebies, and lower division players. Also if we get rid of him who’s going to want to take the job on considering the restraints in place.

I would expect progress, and I quite like his additions although most are stepping up one or two divisions, and will need time to adapt.

why keep harping back to LJ, he went because he failed to achieve his objectives in the time frame given, and had run his course. We are now in a much different position financially since COVID and the scatter gun approach used by Ashton.

I would hope he’s given as much time as he needs as imo he’s the best manager we’ve had for years but will need time to turn us around.

Even if that’s true, he’ll still get a season in the PL, with the opportunity to impress and will get much higher wages. Then he’ll be in a top championship side rather than a middling one at best. I can’t see any player Turing down the opportunity to be in the PL, no matter how brief the stay is.

Sell and a loan back for a season sounds good for all concerned. If the reports are true. As long as the figures are right obviously. Win, win.

I never understood this guy; he was amazing in pre-season, scoring for fun. Then come the first game of the season, he was on the bench and rarely came off it. I wonder if we did have a sell on clause, and what Blackburn paid, it's saying undisclosed on the BBC site

Bristol City set for surprising windfall as Championship rivals line up former Robins forward
'Sammie Szmodics was a Robins player for just over a year but could be heading back to the Championship with Blackburn Rovers close to completing a £2.5m transfer
From City’s point of view, that figure could net them around £300,000 following the sell-on clause that was inserted by former CEO Mark Ashton when Szmodics was sold to Posh in 2020 for around £1m. That ensures City 20 per cent of any profits from further sales, which works out at a fifth of £1.5m.'

No wish to stir the pot but nothing to do with LJ...

I was only joking, although pretty sure RP would class him as "one of the 65". What it does show is, and what I have always said, MA was a good wheeler-dealer; it ultimately only came off the tracks when COVID hit, and we couldn't wheel and deal anymore. I'm glad he's gone, as his approach was very scattergun in terms of sanctioning/forcing signings on his managers, but financially he got a lot right in the transfer market!

When he was played centrally for the final 10 Championship games of last season, we saw Sammie recreate his form from League One, with four goals and an assist, along with both the creative and physical metrics of an attacking midfielder who will add a different dimension to our group."
WOW an attacking midfielder .. mind you with Posh he very well to start off with [ DF ] in charge ... £300k pay kalas wage for 14 weeks

Plus a loan back and a decent sell on % would be nice

Didn't I suggest this option weeks back when you said 'where do we get the money' for a new striker.

Possibly, if you did it’s a good idea if we are resigned to selling him. Whether it will happen is another thing. I think I’d rather keep him another season if that’s possible though.

If we have to sell him it’s a good idea, I just think if we could keep our best players we have more chance of eventually getting promoted. That’s all

I’m a pragmatist, I realise we will probably have to sell him. In which case a loan back, along a good selling price and a good % sell on is as good a deal as we’re likely to get.

It’s also true if we keep selling our best players we’ll get nowhere, it’s partly why we are where we are. I’m not sure how we square the circle, that’s why I’m not a manager, it’s also why I believe having an experienced man at the helm is our best opportunity of success.
