I sense that HNM doesn't like NP's management style, and has told his reps to either find him a new club now, or wind down his contract this season.

Could be true, but if so he doesn't appear to be attracting a lot of interest from other clubs.

You can't say Nige didn't utilize him last season, I think it's a case of pay him more or play him out, as long as it's to our advantage.
In the English Football League - Championship season 2021/22, Han-Noah Massengo played 26 matches (plus 11 as a sub). They had 7 shots on target from a total of 13 shots and scored 0 goals (0.94 xG)

I was never impressed by HNM and had an idea that clubs would not come for him at a reasonable price and so yet another supposed future star will vanish without a trace. Occasional brilliance does not make a valuable asset and for me he just didn't bring anything other than rare flashes and poor passing and decisions. Does the name Nicky Maynard bring back any memories? NP is correct in his statement.

Football is a funny business, to most of the players it’s just a profession, their career. Players kiss the badge all the time, then are sold to the highest bidder, and kiss their new badge.

HNM is looking after his interest as he sees it. Provided when he pulls on a shirt he gives it his all, I’ve no problem with him.

I like NP’s approach, the players that are fully on board and committed will take precedence over those that aren’t. In that sense it would be in HNM’s interest to sign as he’s likely to get more game time, and have more chance to find a suitor if his intention is to leave. The alternative is to not sign and be used more as a bit part player.

How nice it would be to face a season as a Bristol City supporter having real belief that this time it would be truly different but I just don't feel anything deep inside me that tells me that we have a squad capable of meeting expectations. For years we have been hearing that the end game is promotion to the Premier League with a following of 27/28,000 to cheer us along the way and yet there has literally been very little, if any, encouragement to show the faithful that we mean business. The incomings have been less than stellar as all their experience has been lower down the tables and to expect them to step up their performances to Championship level might be a bridge too far. When you look back at all the talent that has left the safe confines of Ashton Gate, including some for high prices, it makes me ask whether the commitment to promotion is truly wandering the back halls of our organization. If indeed the commitment is really in our DNA then why wasn't some of the monies generated through some pretty tasty business in the sell-off department not re-invested to make us better for the long term? The fact that we chose not to make ourselves contenders when the money was available leaves me to believe that someone along this road actually lead us down a blind alley to nowhere and now we suffer the consequences. Trying to reach the promised land with our paltry budget is a brain dead wish even though it has been done before by teams who must be considered to be bottom feeders who over achieved. Whether or not NP's belief that we have enough to do the same remains to be seen, and I want him to make me eat my words, but I am not holding my breath.

I have said many times on here, I no longer believe SL really wants to spend the money to get into, and stay in the PL. It's simply too expensive these days.I think he learned the hard way after Ashton.

You may be right, but either way we have to stay within FFP, so his hands are tied.

I'm with your comments supcon but where on earth was the bean counter that should have been saying no no no to the ways of people who were given way too much power. That's all history now and we have to move on but never the less I would have expected better from a supposed astute businessman. Pearson rang the bells loud and clearly in some of his comments about the basis on which the club does it's business and essentially told those on whom we have counted on that they were lousy tactics at best. I think Nigel would have sussed out Ashton at a mere glimpse and sent him packing very early. We are what we are as a result of our poor history and getting a better future may be more difficult and painful than we would want. Good luck Nigel and the lads.
