Rueben's surname may have most to do with this signing.

15 year old, going to stay with his dad, or staying on his own in Bristol. Probably had a lot to do with it.

Caulker - I thought he would be the next Tony Adams but he faded away to nowhere. I understand he had some addiction issues (gambling).
I can’t see him recovering his ability to the level it was the first time around - he must be well into his 30s now.

The lad had so much potential, but as you say, gambling destroyed him. I think he was playing for someone like Torquay last time I heard about him. I don't see this being anywhere near true.

What a shame because he looked the business with a bright future in football and then gambling destroyed his life and career. I cringe when I see the overload of gambling sites pushing their wares all around the league including shirts, stadium naming rights and billboards as far as the eye can see. How many more lives will be ruined before betting is banned as the ease of losing everything you own in the push of a button has become another pandemic that should be eradicated?

I’ve not been addicted to gambling or anything really (my wife argues I’m addicted to beer) - but I fail to see why that would destroy a footballers career. It doesn’t affect your physical health (unlike booze, ***s or drugs). He should still have been able to perform ON the pitch even if he went straight to the casino or bookies after a game.
NOT trivialising this addiction btw - just wondering why it would affect his game.

The mental angst created by the losses would probably have a knock on effect which might affect performance, but I get your point. Looking back at some of the previous players that have fallen down the gambling trap door I don't believe many came through with flying colours.
