Torres was world class before his dip. I mean the guy scored the winner in a European final. Modric has never reached the levels Torres did and will do when he is fit. Chelsea have clearly noted the Torres has not had a summer off for so many years and this summer he will be rested and no doubt ready for next season.
I wouldn't accept less than £35mill, plus Drogba. On top of that we won't break our wage structure for Drogba so they will have to continue paying £60kpw of his £130k wages.
If/when we do sell him we are obviously looking at minimum of £30M. With that amount of cash around, any players we target their clubs will demand crazy money as well. Not to mention players like Bale and VDV might chip off as well.
I fully expect a denial by Modric and the club in the morning To date there has only been stories from the pro-Chelsea and Man Utd media, and nothing concrete I wouldn't worry
Torres has had many fitness and injury problems over the past two seasons and his form has been awful. Modric has been outstanding consistently during that time. Comparisons between them as players are ridiculous though, as they're completely different players. The price paid showed how high Chelsea are willing to go to get their man, though.
Just read the stuff on Guardian. Awful stuff by Modric. I thought he was one of the few guys who had class. The need to go public so you can push a move is as unclassy as it comes.
Good thing is we are in no position to sell. Modric is on a long contract and is not the type to refuse to play. I'm sure Harry will have a word with him. Meanwhile Levy will either refuse any offers or take them out to the cleaners.
Don't start waving goodbye to the little magician just yet. 1. The offer, even if increased to 30million, is not high enough for such a highly rated player. 2. It is silly season. Football "transfer news" is all the hacks have to write about from May to August. If it's not there, they write it anyway. 3. Modric is on a long contract after negotiating a new deal quite recently. No can actually mean no.
4. The media don't like Chelsea and Man Utd being challenged and will do all they can to stop it, such as making quotes up as in this case
Also at the way Chelsea are run. No manager and the owner is getting busy buying. If the bloke had more time i have no doubts he would have made himself manager by now.
Well, it seems tomorrow Luka has to come out and say something, whether confirming or dismissing the reports. Im optimistic that he'll dismiss them and will reiterate that he wants to stay, hopefully warding off bacon face, the chavs and oil FC
I think that Hiddink's already in the job, SSN8. If not, then I'm sure that whoever's taking over has been consulted.
Agree that they bum Chelsea and united but completely fabricating quotes is going a bit too far, and I don't see how they could have even been taken out of context too. Just accept there are very few loyal players anymore. Torres gave us an interview about how he loved us and the club and wanted to stay before handing in a transfer request to the chavs a few days before the season start. In conclusion, players aren't loyal and Chelsea are a joke for just poaching players like this. Nice to see they're taking uefa fair play rules seriously.
WUMless post by me Here's an interesting perspective on the Modric situation following this latest Mail article... http://www.dearmrlevy.com/ and it's from a Spurs fan.
It wouldn't be the first time a player has been misquoted As I said earlier, the alleged interview took place last night. To wait that long before posting the story would suggest tampering
I agree completely. If anything it is worst than Berbatov, for ages Berbatov was making noises that he would consider a move to a bigger club long before the season ended in 07/08. Modric has said all along he won't ask to leave WHL but in fact it seems he is pushing to do so.
