He's broken the rules once dill, for which he was warned. The other posts he seems to think are correct in his mind, and there is no rule against that.

Ignore function will work, so long as those who want him gone put him on the ignore list.

I bet Dai is sitting back in his chair, hands folded behind head with a huge grin on his face as he reads all the crap on here. I believe DaiswanHuwsmate (Aw, isn't he a sad wum) has achieved what he set out to do.
I think the thing to do is Simply ignore him and that includes his positive posts.
He will, on occasion, make these "positive" posts here and it seems that when this happens every regular on this forum is fighting to be the first to say "Now I don't normally agree with Dai, but on this he is spot on" or "Well said Dai" or " Bloody good post Dai".... STOP IT! Absolute ostracization is the only answer apart from a ban by the Mods. So send him to Coventry, or at least make him pass through on the way to Liverpool.

It is tiring to have every thread spark off and turn into insults and this was notably different during the ban.

At the same time Dai is capable of good posts and I have no need or desire to censor people I disagree with - the only thing I am concerned about is intent (are some of these things truly his opinion, or are they for effect?).

It is a very difficult thing to deal with and I appreciate the tight-rope the mods walk.

Anyway, I will be following advice set out by the thread.

Ok, someone explain how i put somone on ignore, I will try it and see how it goes. If threads keep getting derailed, I am going to look elsewhere. I know i am not the biggest poster and i like healthy debate, but when posts are just put on there to be antagonistic and have no information to back it up, it is just so annoying and this is getting out of hand.

So i will try what chico says.

Go to your profile, and on the left hand side it says "Ignore list". Add his username to that list, job done.

It's absolutely hysterical that Dai gets hammered for derailing threads when he hardly posted on the Man U thread - it was derailed by the massive volume of those bitching about him. <laugh>

I really don't know why you are all finding this so bloody difficult. Just follow the 3 Steps to Heaven:

Step 1: Put him on your ignore list if you are not interested in reading his posts.
Step 2: As a forum, we should never, ever reply with quotes to his posts. That way nobody will ever see them. Can we all agree on that?
Step 3: In the unlikely event that you do happen to see a post from him that breaches the rules notify the mods.

    IT'S NOT HARD! <doh>

This forum is getting a very bad reputation for censorship and banning posters for the most innocuous comments.

Dai has almost been on a crusade of late and has brought a lot of this criticism on himself. But I've said it before and I'll say it again. There are posters that are still active here who have said a lot worse than Dai and haven't even been warned, let alone banned. You know who you are.

As Vetch pointed out elsewhere, Aber advocated violence and drug taking and his posts were rarely football related, yet he was welcomed back with open arms by almost everyone previously. I said he'd end up getting banned again and lo and behold...The lack of judgment has been breathtaking at times - mainly by a previous mod who thankfully resigned.

Chico is right - banning Dai is not the answer and if you find it beyond your capabilities to follow steps 1-3 above then you really need help.

I still think you've gone off half cocked, and nothing you have said here has changed my view, but as you well know, historically I've always defended Dai's right to post and still do, but something needs to be done with the way he continually derails threads, and it was for that reason, and also the fact that I want this forum of ours to thrive, that I referred the Mods of ours, to consider the forum option they have of removing his contentious posts, that are there to wind his own fellow Jacks up, and as you well know, that on the old BBC 606, any poster putting up a new thread, had control of removing offending and off topic posts, but here on not606, we do not have that advantage, and it's because of that, that poster such as Dai thrive, and why our Mods in my view need to be more proactive in simply removing his posts, after all it's why the forum has that facility.....................<ok>

If the mods do that Phil they'll be going for a world record of deleted posts. Probably at least 90% will be deleted at this rate

WUM = Wind-up merchant. It refers to someone who posts on message boards and newsgroups with the intention to cause as much disruption as possible by goading others.

Either Dai is a very clever person who is wumming and covering it over extremely well or just a kooky guy with bizarre and irrational views. Personally I suspect the latter. He doesn't annoy me - I just let it pass calmly over my head. I can also see how he irritates the crap out of people.

We have given the moderators (thanks for taking the role on) various powers on our behalf and like Phil above I would like to see them be a bit more draconian. Please delete any posts you feel break the rules, without explanation or justification, as long as it's done sensibly. Then, say, once a month, we can have a 'surgery' thread on what has been going on and the effects their actions have had. Just an idea.

    aswan!

Couldn't you apply that WUM definition to Dill as well as Dai? It seems to an outsider that Dai is getting all the blame here when all you need do is look no further than an article like this.

No doubt we're all guilty of a bit of wummery on occasions. The knack of deleting posts is to do it uniformly and consistently across the board (excuse the pun). And if your posts are deleted just accept it without starting a new thread questioning why they were deleted or it goes on and on and on...

Which is why the fall-out can be confined to once a month with the 'surgery thread' suggested.
