It's about confidence Smart. He's been an exceptional 'keeper in Spain. He needs to get used to playing in a more physically robust league where there are different pressures. SAF must think he'll swim rather than sink.

It's about confidence Smart. - Yes it is, he won't have much after those howlers.

He's been an exceptional 'keeper in Spain. - Has he? Not good enough to play for his country though luke, United traditionally have International no.1's, no?

He needs to get used to playing in a more physically robust league where there are different pressures. - and he's going to do that in a week???'...he looks a lanky feeble streak of wet piss to me.

SAF must think he'll swim rather than sink. - Taibi! :D

I look forward to heaping more ridicule on De Goof! :D

Exceptional?

Always been prone to mistakes from long range shots and struggled with high balls into the box.

I don't doubt SAF but De Gea defiantely needs work and fast.

I know its a wait n see job luke...don't jump out of your pram over it though!...you're well overdue a clanger keeper! <laugh>

Top totty though! :emoticon-0110-tongu

I have to defend De Gea on one point that you've raised, Notso.
He may not have been capped for Spain yet, but he has to get past Casillas, Valdes and Reina.
If either of the latter two were English, then they'd have the number 1 jersey absolutely sewn up for years.

He was SamirNasriIsOurMessi, HD.
Don't know why he changed it, to be honest... <whistle>

You may not be able to draw conclusions Lidls, but you can plan for the next league game.
De Gea is currently struggling to adapt.
His confidence must be a little rocky.
I think it's just common sense to try and get to him.

Inadvertantly then, you make my point PNP, why didn't they go for one of said 3, instead of no.4! They wouldn't touch the English no.4 with a bargepole. Its not the fact or the reasons why De Gea isn't, its that United have taken an unusual step this time. <ok>

"His Achilles' Heel is shots from outside the box."...an achilles heel, no amount of surgery has cured Paul Robinson of. :D

Age and virtually impossible transfers, Notso.
De Gea's got at least 8 years on the other three and they play for Real, Barca and Liverpool, 3 of the 4 most unlikely teams to sell to Man Utd.

Casillas will never leave Madrid, Valdes is never going to leave Barcelona and can you see Liverpool selling anyone to Utd especially a quality keeper.

Can everyone stop knocking Robert Green, please?
What do people expect from a Championship goalkeeper...? <whistle>

I think that's probably enough taking the piss out of the howlers of other teams' keepers, guys. People in glass houses...and all that....!

Might be a good time to get Thudd onto the ball outside their penalty area to welcome him to the PL with a few Thudd specials.

I am always puzzled by people saying this. For all his attributes, accurate shooting is not one of them. He scores about 1-2 goals a season this way, although granted they are often quite spectacular. His shots on target percentage is usually one of the lowest in the league. Unless De Gea is standing in row Z or by the corner flag he will usually have no worries about Thudds shots.

True, the ones he gets on target are unstoppable so the level of keeper is irrelevant and most of them go sailing into the stands.

His goals stats are poor, and some are wide and over, but many are blocked, some resulting in corners. Don't think he'll ever be prolific, but he has been unlucky with a few pile drivers...Modric is worse imo!
